OR Nurse Travel Assignment

Location & Facility

• Facility Type: Surgical Services Operating Room (OR)
• Unit Beds: 8 OR Main Campus + 4 ORs at Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)
• Trauma Level: 3

• Total Facility Beds: 341

Contract Length

• 16 weeks (approximately 4 months)

Schedule & Shifts

• Shift Hours: 07:00 - 19:30 (12-hour shifts)
• Rotation Schedule: Rotate days off with other staff working 12-hour shifts
• Weekend Requirements: On call once every 3rd to 4th weekend
• Call Requirements: 1 night per week
• Holiday Requirements: On call for 1 holiday per year if not assigned; travelers must work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day/Eve)
• No block schedules
• Orientation: 2 days, bi-weekly on Mondays (next available 12/29)

Experience & Certifications

• Minimum Clinical Experience: 2 years total, 2 years in specialty
• Certifications Required: NY nursing license, BLS
• Certifications Preferred: CNOR (certification through NBSTSA preferred)
• Prior travel experience preferred
• Work history must be from similar size facility with trauma level II or higher

Unit Details

• Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:1
• Circulate required; scrub experience preferred
• Ancillary Staff: OR Aides, Scrub Techs, Surgical Assistants, RNs (approx. 30 staff per shift)
• Advanced Practice Providers: None on unit
• Floating Required: Yes, float to ASC depending on cases and nurse experience
• Charge Nurse: Not required

Patient Population

• All surgeries except cardiac, transplants, neuro, and gastric bypass
• Age Range: 6 months to 100+ years

Equipment & Support

• Respiratory support available 24/7; respiratory manages ventilators
• Anesthesia support available 24/7
• Unit-specific procedures: Start IVs, patient transports if central transport is backed up

Documentation & Systems

• Documentation System: EPIC
• Medication System: EPIC
• Scheduling System: Smartsquare
• Dress Code: Scrubs provided; closed-toe, non-skid shoes; no jewelry while scrubbed in; hair/beard covered; no chipped nail polish or fake nails

Additional Notes

• Certified OR Techs: Float and call required; weekend shifts every other weekend as needed; max call 1x post-shift/week and 1 weekend day per 4-week period
• Must explain any employment gaps over 90 days
• Complete work history required including bed count, EMR, facility type
• Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended due to lack of public transportation; vehicles should have all-season or snow tires November through April

This assignment requires a skilled OR nurse with solid knowledge in ortho, robotics, general surgery, ENT, plastics, and neuro. The role involves circulating primarily, with some scrub experience preferred, and includes floating to the ASC. The environment is fast-paced with a 1:1 nurse-patient ratio and a diverse surgical patient population.
