Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics - Travel/Contract
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts, every other weekend required
Job Requirements
Licenses & Certifications:
- Indiana State License (must be active and in hand to submit)
- NBRC-RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required for Labor & Delivery placements; can be obtained after offer
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred
- Education must be accredited by CoARC and regionally accredited by CHEA
Experience:
- Minimum 18 months recent experience in NICU or PICU
- Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience required (primary assignment in L&D)
- Trauma 1 experience in a children's hospital within the last year required
- Experience with ventilators: Servo I, Servo U, Hamilton G5
Unit Assignment:
- Primarily assigned to NICU, PICU, or Pediatrics units
- Floating between NICU, PICU, Pediatrics, and possibly IU Health North Hospital may be required
Additional Notes:
- First-time travelers accepted
- Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at IU Health facilities except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
Required Documentation & Compliance
Background Checks:
- Must include 7 years of residence/work history
- SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- Education verification (new travelers only)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
Health & Immunization:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
- Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required for 2025-26 flu season (no declinations accepted)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
Competency & Testing:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (not required for Techs or RRTs)
- Unit competency exam required
- Color blind testing (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
- Orientation safety manual and HIPAA acknowledgment
References & Employment History:
- Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years
- Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of IU Health mandatory RRT modules prior to orientation (21 modules total)
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements
- Completion of orientation packets and tests as required by IU Health
- Proof of valid driver’s license or passport (clear copy)
Summary
This is a travel/contract Respiratory Therapist position focused on NICU, PICU, and Labor & Delivery units in Indianapolis, Indiana. Candidates must hold an active Indiana license and NBRC-RRT certification, with at least 18 months of recent pediatric critical care experience including trauma. Multiple certifications and health documents are required, along with completion of IU Health-specific training modules. The contract is approximately 13 weeks with 12-hour shifts and every other weekend work. First-time travelers are welcome.
