Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (IR PACU)

Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Position Details

  • Role: Interventional Radiology Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (IR PACU) Nurse
  • Shift: Rotating start times at 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM, or 8:00 AM
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (shift times vary based on unit needs)
  • Requirements:
    • IR PACU experience with Phase 1 recovery
    • Minimum 1 year ICU experience
    • Experience caring for pediatric patients
    • 3-4 late stays required every 6 weeks
  • Certifications Required (must have or be willing to obtain prior to start):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – not required at time of submission but must be obtained before starting

Required Background Checks & Verifications

  • Background Check (within 1 year, updated annually) including:
    • County Criminal Background Search (last 7 years)
    • National Criminal and Sex Offender Search
    • SS Trace, FACIS III, Education Verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM Check (within 30 days of start, updated annually)
  • HHS/OIG Exclusion Check (within 30 days of start, updated annually)
  • Education Verification or signed official transcript/diploma
  • Sex Offender Search (within 30 days of start, updated annually)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA only, RQI accepted)
  • BLS (AHA only, RQI accepted)
  • PALS (AHA only, RQI accepted; ENPC acceptable in lieu of PALS)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – if applicable
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy certification) – if applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – must not expire during contract
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – if applicable
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – Blue Card required, can be completed onsite
  • NIH Stroke Certification – if applicable
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) – required for ICU, PACU, and other specified units
  • State Nursing License Verification (within 30 days of start)
  • NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP) (within 30 days of start)
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing – required for ICU, PACU, ER, Telemetry, Step Down, etc.

Competency Exams (must be current and renewed as required)

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (80% passing score)
  • Color Blind Testing (80% passing score)
  • Unit Specific Competency Exams (80% passing score)
  • Core Parts I, II, III (80% passing score)
  • Conscious Sedation Competency Exam (if applicable)
  • RN Math Ability Competency Exam (Basic or Advanced, 80% passing score)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam (within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, or PA)
  • Fit Mask Test (annual) – acceptable masks include Halyard Regular/Small, 3M N95 models
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB Test or Chest X-Ray (annual renewal)
  • TB Questionnaire (annual for positive TB history)
  • Immunizations or Titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (series or positive titer or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug Testing (within 1 year, updated annually) – includes multiple drug panels, no rapid screens accepted
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved exemption (annual)
  • COVID-19 Vaccination or approved exemption (initial series required; booster preferred but not required)

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references verified within 6 months of start (manager/supervisor preferred)
  • Employment Application with explanation for any gaps over 30 days
  • Skills Checklists (updated annually, specific to specialty/unit)
  • Work History Verification (7 years employment history, completed 8 business days prior to start)
  • Facility-specific documents including confidentiality and acceptable use policies must be signed prior to start

Notes

  • Local travelers within 75 miles are not accepted for this position.
  • Candidates must renew all documents and certifications that expire during the assignment prior to clearance to start or continue working.
  • Pass/Fail EKG exam has strict retake policies; failure after two attempts results in cancellation.
  • PALS certification must be obtained prior to start if not currently held.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU and IR PACU nurses with pediatric care experience who meet the certification and compliance requirements listed above.
