Job Opportunity: Neuro IR Tech (Neuro Interventional Radiology Technician)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology (Neuro Interventional Radiology)
- Daily Caseload: 4-5 cases per tech
- Shift: 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM)
- On-Call: Required every 5th weekend and one night per week; must be within 30 minutes radius during on-call
- Floating: No floating within or to sister facilities
- Start Date: Approximately 2-3 weeks from offer
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Interventional Radiology and Neuro experience
- First-time travelers accepted
- Certifications required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
- ARRT (R) certification
- Radiation badge required; must be supplied by the agency (facility does NOT provide radiation badges)
Facility Highlights
- Teaching hospital with Magnet status and Level 1 Trauma center
- Total staffed beds: 865
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrubs provided by facility
- Parking: Paid parking for nights and weekends with a one-time $20 parking pass fee
Work Conditions & Policies
- Radius rule: 60 miles; locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams; peak months August and September
- Must complete all required orientation modules prior to start
- Facility requires a clear, passport-style badge photo before start
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9, E-Verify attestation)
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card
- Background checks including:
- SSN Trace
- County and state criminal checks (including South Carolina)
- Sex Offender Registry
- National Criminal and FACIS 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification (diploma/transcripts as placeholder if needed)
- Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
- Radiation badge ordering process must be initiated before start; badge delivery may take 5-7 days
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
Health & Safety Requirements
- Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
- Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Sterile Processing Techs (if applicable) require additional physical assessment and lab panels (CMP, CBC)
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit (check specific unit requirements)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required for pediatric units only
- Other certifications as applicable (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, TNCC, CHEMO) depending on unit assignment
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests required as applicable
- Color blindness testing required prior to start
Licensing
- South Carolina RN license or compact license required for RNs
- Primary source verification of all licenses and certifications required
- NURSYS verification required for RNs and LPNs/LVNs
- IV Therapy certification required for select LPNs if applicable
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Orientation modules must be completed before starting; estimated 2-6 hours depending on location
- COVID and flu vaccine documentation must be uploaded into facility system prior to start
- Badge photo must be submitted by Wednesday end of day prior to start for badge printing
- Travelers must comply with all facility-specific policies and procedures
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment with a focus on neuro interventional radiology. Candidates must be prepared for on-call responsibilities and compliance with strict health and safety protocols.
