Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Kingsport, Tennessee
Specialty: Registered Nurse – Acute Care Surgical and Bariatric Unit
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Patient ratio: 1:7 MS (must be preclosed to sub)
- Unit: Acute care surgical and bariatric
- Schedule: 36/36 or 36/48 (choose based on employment agreement)
- Every other weekend required
- Required to float to other units as needed
- Must live within 100 miles of the facility
- General orientation starts on Sundays (online CBLs)
- 16 hours of non-billable orientation included
- Hospital may cancel/call off one shift biweekly without penalty if census decreases
- Additional overtime shifts may be flexed based on census/resource needs without penalty
- Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- Accepts first-time travelers
- AHA BLS certification required
- Medical-Surgical/Telemetry and Medical-Surgical experience required
Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all patient contact (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Verify unit requirements (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Verify unit requirements (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for ER; can be pending at start but highly preferred
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Highly preferred for ER candidates, not required
- State License Verification: Primary source verification required
- NURSYS Verification: Required for RN, LPN/LVN, AP
- Tech Certification: National certification required as applicable (e.g., Certified Surgical Techs)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually
Background Checks & Compliance
- Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check required within 30 days of start
- HHS/OIG check required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required for all candidates
- Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required if licensed/certified in TN or working in TN
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge (must meet specific standards, completed within 48 hours of contract signing)
- Staff info form (time sensitive, completed within 24 hours of contract signing)
- Department-specific uniform guidelines and dress code must be reviewed
- Contaminated sharps and body fluid exposure statement must be completed
- Smoking and tobacco use policy must be reviewed
- Influenza policy must be reviewed
- Flu exemption request and religious accommodation forms required if applicable
- Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and clearance forms must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
- CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use must be reviewed
Health Documents & Immunizations
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start (not required annually)
- Respiratory fit mask testing completed onsite; previous fit tests from non-facility sources not accepted
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines
- MMR titers (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) required; documentation of vaccines or boosters accepted if low immunity
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination required
- Varicella titer required; documentation of vaccines or boosters accepted if low immunity
- Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)
