Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Facility: Hospital setting with multiple medical-surgical and telemetry units


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 14 weeks
  • Shift Guarantee: 36 or 48 hours guaranteed per week
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year (1st time travelers accepted)
  • Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
  • Float Requirement: Required to float between Medical-Surgical (MS), MS Telemetry, and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) units
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:
    • PCU: 1:4-5
    • MS and MS Telemetry: 1:5-6
  • Electronic Systems: Epic (required), Pyxis, SBAR
  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
  • Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend (approximately 6 weekends in a 13-week contract)
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Holiday Work:
    • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it
    • If 2 major holidays fall, expected to work both
    • If 3 major holidays fall, expected to work 2 of them
  • Major Holidays Include: New Year’s Eve/Day, Spring Break (no RTO), Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly orientation schedule; full compliance required to start on time or assignment start may be delayed by 2 weeks

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Other certifications may be required depending on specialty and unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start, including national and county criminal searches, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and education verification
  • Education Verification: Degree verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start)
  • State License: Must be valid and verified within 30 days prior to start (Georgia license required)
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable under certain conditions
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start (Aya requirement)
  • Immunizations & Health Documents:
    • TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
    • TB questionnaire updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B series or signed declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (strongly encouraged during flu season)
  • Competency Exams: Required for medication administration, dysrhythmia/EKG, color blindness, and general nursing competencies (Aya-specific requirements)
  • References: Two clinical references required (Aya requirement)
  • Skills Checklist: Must be current within 12 months
  • Work History Verification: Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process

Additional Notes

  • Floating between units is mandatory
  • No call responsibilities
  • Dress code requires navy blue scrubs
  • Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start
  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 14 weeks = approximately 14 hours)
