Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 7 weeks


Experience & Patient Population

  • Minimum Experience: 2 years (1st time travelers accepted)
  • Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics

Unit & Work Environment

  • Unit: Telemetry
  • Diagnoses include: CHF, MI/Chest pain (pre- and post-cath), Dysrhythmias (pre- and post-device implants), Hypo-/Hypertension, Pleural effusion, Sepsis, PE/DVT/vascular issues
  • Ratio/Census: 1:4-5; 16 rooms
  • Unit Systems: Epic (required), Pyxis, SBAR
  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue
  • Floating: Yes
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Weekends: Every other weekend
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
  • Holidays: Expected to work major holidays during assignment (see details below)

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification

Major Holidays Expectation

  • New Year’s Eve and Day
  • Spring Break (April 6-12, no RTO)
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving/Black Friday
  • Christmas Eve and Day

If one major holiday falls during assignment, traveler is expected to work it. If two, both must be worked. If three, two must be worked.


Compliance & Orientation

  • Full compliance required to start on time
  • Non-compliance results in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
  • Number of Non-Billable Orientation (NBO) hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)

Screening Process

  • Clinical pre-screen to determine fit
  • Manager final decision after clinical approval

Required Documents & Verifications

  • Photo ID: Driver’s License or State ID
  • Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start, including criminal, sex offender, education verification, and more
  • Education Verification: Degree verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start)
  • State License: Georgia RN license verification within 30 days prior to start
  • NURSYS Verification: Annual verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start
  • Negative TB or Chest X-Ray: Within 12 months of start; TB Questionnaire required annually
  • Immunizations:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination
    • Flu Vaccine or Declination (strongly encouraged during flu season)
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; cannot start with results pending
  • References: 2 clinical references required
  • Skills Checklist: Updated within 12 months
  • Work History Verification: Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required by agency)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
  • Competency Exam (required by agency)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry and related units)

Facility Policies

  • Must review and sign Code of Conduct and Acknowledgement prior to start
  • Must review Dress and Professional Appearance Policy

This position offers a challenging telemetry nursing role with a diverse adult to geriatric patient population, requiring strong clinical skills and certifications. The assignment includes floating responsibilities, every other weekend work, and holiday coverage expectations. Compliance with all documentation, certifications, and competency requirements is mandatory for timely start.
