Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Level IV Trauma Center, Major Teaching Hospital
Unit: 3S CV Telemetry
Job Details
- Shift: Nights (7pm-7am), 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
- Schedule: Weekdays, every other weekend required
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Patient Population:
- Pre/Post Op surgical cardiovascular patients
- Medical cardiac patients requiring progressive care/monitoring
- Vascular patients, amputations, detox patients
- Patient Ratios: Goal 4:1; stretch 5:1; LPN support available
- Float: Clinician may float within scope to meet facility needs
- Orientation: Held every other week on Thursday; 2-day orientation (Thursday and Friday)
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours minimum
Required Skills & Certifications
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (AHA only, no pending certs allowed)
- MAB preferred
- Preferred/Unit-Specific Certifications:
- ACLS not required for this unit
- Skills:
- IV Start
- Telemetry
- PCU/IMC experience
- Special Procedures:
- Ostomies
- Chest Tubes
- Wound Vacs/Care
- CPAP/BiPAP
- Central Lines, PICCs
- Drips (Heparin, Amnio, Cardizem, Cardiac Drips)
Licensure
- WV or Compact RN License required (pending license may be submitted)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Flu Shot: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless medically exempt with documentation
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
- SSN Trace, Counties, Sex Offender Search, National Criminal
- International searches if applicable
- Additional Checks: EPLS/SAM, HHS/OIG, National Sex Offender Registry (all within 30 days and updated annually)
- Drug Screen: Within 30 days of start, includes multiple substances; no placeholders allowed
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year, stating good health and no limitations
- Annual fit mask testing (N95 3M 1860 Small/Regular or Aura 9205) or PAPR accommodation if needed
- Tdap vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions accepted with approval)
- Negative TB test within 3 months or chest x-ray if positive history
- MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers required
- Hepatitis B vaccination or titer documentation required
- Varicella vaccination or titers required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- References: Minimum 1 reference from manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within 1 year
- Skills Checklist: Annual specialty skills checklist required
Orientation & Training
- 2-day orientation covering Cerner Infusion Management
- Pass/fail testing required for EKG, medication calculation, and blood administration (Nursing only)
- Inservice training modules must be completed 1 week prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
- Review of facility-specific policies including blood administration, dress code, math calculation, and EKG review packets
Additional Notes
- Candidates cannot return as travelers within 2 years of last permanent day worked at this facility
- 100-mile radius rule applies for travel distance; exceptions possible
- Parking is free for travelers
- Scrub color: Royal Blue/White (RN)
- Charting system: Cerner
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with telemetry and progressive care cardiac patients, working night shifts in a fast-paced acute care teaching hospital environment.
