Job Opportunity: Surgical Technologist / First Assistant (Contract)
Location: Bangor, Maine

Job Summary
- Work under the direct supervision of a surgeon to facilitate safe and effective invasive surgical procedures.
- Ensure the operating room environment is safe and equipment functions properly.
- Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgery.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon with an advanced understanding of the procedure.
- Function as a surgical technician, demonstrating principles of safe patient positioning and visualization of the operative site.
- Assist the surgeon with hemostasis and closure of body planes using appropriate techniques.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of normal and pathological anatomy and physiology.
- Understand emergency situations and maintain superior organizational skills and professional attitude.
- The surgeon must be physically present in the OR suite footprint while the assistant is scrubbed in and working. If the surgeon leaves, the assistant must pause work until the surgeon returns.
- The assistant cannot independently direct hospital personnel or function as a circulating nurse.
(OR Suite footprint includes OR, ASU, or PACU)
Requirements
- Education: Trade or Technical School (Certificate or diploma)
- Certifications:
- CSFA Certification (required)
- BLS Certification (mandatory within three months)
Additional Information
- Up to 16 hours of orientation is unpaid.
- The facility may cancel up to 3 shifts during the 13-week contract.
- If the traveler resides within 50 miles of the facility, a pay adjustment applies.
