Job Opportunity: Surgical Services - Travel/Contract

Location: York, Pennsylvania
Specialty: Surgical Services
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in multiple specialties including Orthopedics, Thoracic, Vascular, and Robotics.
  • Certifications:
    • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Trauma Experience: Level I Trauma experience required.
  • EMR Experience: EPIC experience required.
  • Travelers: First-time travelers are NOT accepted.
  • Schedule:
    • 4x10-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM)
    • On-call: 4-6 calls within a 6-week matrix with a 30-minute response time
    • Weekends: 4-6 weekend shifts within a 6-week matrix (can be days, evenings, or nights)
    • Holidays as needed
  • Floating: May float to sterile processing as needed.
  • Response to Time Off (RTO): Maximum 7 days allowed.
  • Blocked schedule: Not approved.
  • Facility: Tobacco and fragrance-free environment.
  • Patient Care: May care for COVID-19 patients.

Hiring Process

  • Clinical screening to determine fit.
  • Manager interview required.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually.
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
    • Pennsylvania FBI fingerprinting within 1 year of start (must be renewed every 5 years).
    • Pennsylvania State Police PATCH search within 1 year of start (must be finalized prior to start).
    • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search within 5 years of start (results must be on file within 45 days of assignment start).
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 90 days of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, or NPT.
    • Immunizations and titers required for:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
      • Measles (Rubeola) – 2 doses vaccine or positive titer
      • Mumps – 2 doses vaccine or positive titer
      • Rubella – 2 doses vaccine or positive titer
      • Hepatitis B – positive titer or full vaccine series (3 doses) plus declination if applicable
      • Varicella – 2 doses vaccine or positive titer
    • Negative TB test (QGold or TSpot) within 90 days of start; chest X-ray required if positive.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or valid medical/religious exemption required annually.
    • COVID-19 vaccination or valid medical/religious exemption/declination accepted.
    • Drug testing: Negative 9-panel within 1 year (Aya requirement only).
    • Respiratory safety clearance within 1 year, renewed annually.
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification as applicable.
    • State license verification and NURSYS verification for applicable roles.
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication test/pharmacology competency as applicable.
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam for RNs (pass/fail process applies).
  • Facility Specific Documents:
    • Professional photo for badge.
    • Signed agreements including Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, Commitment to Health & Wellness, Non-Employee Affidavit, I9 Attestation, and Documentation Attestation.
    • Completion of required Learning Management System (LMS) modules and new hire orientation.
  • References & History:
    • Two professional references within 3 years.
    • Most recent resume/application.
    • Annual skills checklist.
    • Performance evaluations completed onsite during assignment.

Additional Notes

  • Candidate must be able to respond to on-call within 30 minutes.
  • Floating to sterile processing may be required.
  • Tobacco and fragrance-free facility.
  • COVID-19 patient care possible.
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this role.

This position is ideal for experienced Certified Surgical Technologists with multi-specialty expertise, especially in robotics, vascular, and thoracic surgery, who are comfortable with a dynamic schedule including on-call, weekends, and holidays.
