Unit Information

  • Unit Types:

    • Pediatric Emergency Department (around 30 beds)
    • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) – 24 beds
    • Pediatric Intermediate Care (PIMC) – 24 beds
    • Pediatric Surgery – 24 beds
    • Pediatric Oncology / Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) – 24 beds
    • Level 4 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) – 92 beds
  • Staffing:

    • 6-12 staff per shift
    • Day Shift: 1 Supervisor/Team Lead, 0.5 ED, 2-4 NICU, 1.5-2 PICU, 0.5-4.5 floors
    • Night Shift: Similar staffing as day shift
  • Patient Ratios: 30-40 units of therapy per shift

  • Equipment Used:

    • Servo U ventilator with NAVA
    • Avea Ventilator
    • V60 noninvasive ventilator
    • Vapotherm
    • Blender HFNC
    • Vest CPT
    • Redbox IPV
    • MetaNeb
    • Cough Assist
    • Percussor CPT
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Required Skills and Experience

  • Must Have:

    • 6 months to 1 year experience in Pediatric ICU or Level 3/Level 4 NICU
  • Preferred:

    • Experience with nebulizer therapy, airway clearance, BiPAP, ventilator management, HFNC, bronchial hygiene assist, arterial blood gases (ABG)

Certifications and Licenses

  • CRT or RRT credential
  • Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Work Environment and Expectations

  • Floating: Voluntary floating to adult units
  • Dress Code: Olive/sage scrub top with black scrub bottoms preferred; all black scrubs accepted
  • Schedule: At least 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (weekends do not have to be every other weekend)
  • Personality Fit: Team player, flexible, able to work well with others

This position is ideal for respiratory therapists with pediatric critical care experience seeking a travel assignment in a busy, multi-unit pediatric hospital setting.
