Med-Surg Telemetry RN Travel Position

Location: South Charleston, West Virginia
Unit: 5 Pavilion - Med-Surg Telemetry

Job Details

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Unit Beds: 32
• Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:6
• Shift Options:

  • 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
  • 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Scheduling: Block scheduling allowed; weekend and holiday rotations required
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (rotating schedule)
• Holiday Requirement: Rotating with core staff, with some preference possible after tenure
• Floating: May be required to float to Med-Surg units (3P or 4P) or Emergency Department boarders

Patient Population & Care

• Common Diagnoses: Surgical, Orthopedics, Urology, Medical
• Age Group: Adult and Geriatrics
• Typical Cases: Post-operative care including hips, shoulders, knees
• Telemetry: Remote monitoring 24/7 with Charge RN reviewing strips

Required Experience & Skills

• Care of post-operative and medical patients
• Travel nursing experience required
• Ability to titrate drips (Heparin protocol preferred; cardiac drip experience a plus)

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Unit Support & Equipment

• Nurse Aide Ratio: 1 aide per 10 patients
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP
• Other Equipment: IV pumps, pulse oximetry, sequential compression devices

Leadership & Roles

• Charge Nurse: Modified patient assignment (usually 2 patients), may be free charge if staffing allows
• Travelers may be cross-trained and asked to fill Charge Nurse role if interested
• House Supervisor available 24/7

Orientation & Training

• General hospital orientation on first day
• Full day nursing orientation for RNs/LPNs
• Computer training (half day for CNAs, full day for nurses)
• Two 12-hour orientation shifts with preceptor
• Abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist due within 90 days

Dress Code

• RNs/LPNs: Navy solid color scrubs
• CNAs/Monitor Techs: Dark grey/pewter solid color scrubs
• No embroidery or patterns allowed on scrubs
• Solid color fleece zip-ups allowed in grey, black, navy, or royal blue
• Solid undershirts in white, grey, or black matching scrub top
• Closed-toe shoes required; no Crocs allowed

This position is ideal for experienced Med-Surg Telemetry RNs comfortable with post-op care, telemetry monitoring, and flexible scheduling including floating and leadership opportunities.
