Medical Surgical RN Opportunity - Idaho

Unit Details

• Department: Medical Surgical (MedSurg)
• Floor: 2
• Number of Beds: 19 (includes 2 overflow critical care rooms)
• Average Census: 9 patients (fluctuates)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Up to 1:5 on MedSurg; typically 4 RNs per shift Monday-Friday
• Shift Hours: 7 AM to 7 PM
• Weekend and Holiday shifts are equitably distributed among core staff
• Self-scheduling with core staff
• Call or Standby: Twice during the contract

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Pediatric and adult patients (ages 0 to 100+)
• Post-op orthopedic patients (fractures, total joint replacements: hips, knees, shoulders)
• Ski trauma
• Gynecological surgeries (e.g., hysterectomies)
• Respiratory support (vapotherm, high flow oxygen, CPAP, BiPAP)
• COVID-19 patients
• Small bowel obstruction (SBO)
• Chest tubes, surgical drains, wound care
• Telemetry monitoring patients

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years nursing experience
• Experience in Medical Surgical and Pediatric Medical Surgical units
• Strong skillset in ortho post-op care and general MedSurg nursing
• Ability to mix some medications
• Ability to titrate drips (heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone)
• Initiate pressors (norepinephrine, levophed) for critical patients prior to transfer

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse: 1 per shift (usually no patient assignment, may take 2-3 patients if needed)
• Patient Care Techs/CNAs: 1-2 on days, 1 on nights
• Virtual care team for admissions, discharges, and tele-ICU support
• Respiratory Therapy equipment available for stabilization and transfer
• RNs responsible for telemetry rhythm recognition and interpretation; techs assist

Orientation & Training

• 2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation

Additional Information

• Floating: May be required to float as a helping hand or safety attendant within the unit; no cross-department shift pickups
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs allowed
• Weekend and holiday shifts are shared fairly among staff
• Housing: Candidates should be aware this is a ski resort town; written notice of housing research is required
• Radius Rule: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible

This position is ideal for RNs with solid MedSurg and pediatric experience who are comfortable with telemetry, medication titration, and working in a critical access hospital setting.
