Cardiology Cath Lab Contract Opportunity

Location

• Milwaukee, WI

Facility Overview

• Level III Trauma Center
• Level III NICU
• Magnet Designation
• Comprehensive Stroke Center
• 933 beds total
• COVID vaccine required

Unit Details

• Cath Lab with 15 total labs shared between Cath Lab, EP, and Hybrid; travelers will work only in Cath Lab (about 11 labs)
• Fast-paced, high acuity environment
• 24-40 cases per day
• Adult patients only (no pediatrics)
• Patient ratio: 1:1

Procedures Performed

• Diagnostic and interventional Cath Lab cases including:

  • Right and Left Heart Catheterizations (RHC, LHC)
  • STEMI/NSTEMI
  • CTO interventions
  • Valvuloplasty
  • Cardiomems
  • Biopsies
  • Atherectomies
  • Staged PCI
  • IABP, Impella
  • ECMO (preferred)
• Peripheral diagnostic and interventional cases, including fistulograms
• Hybrid cases (preferred but not required experience):

  • AAA grafts
  • Thoracic grafts
  • Clips
  • TAVRs
  • Watchman procedures

Required Experience

• Minimum 3 years Cath Lab experience
• Not suitable for first-time travelers

Certifications Required

• RN: BLS, ACLS; NIHSS preferred
• Radiologic Technologist (RTR): BLS, ACLS, WI License; RCIS preferred

Skills Required

• RN and RTR: Experience with Cath Lab and peripheral cases listed above
• RN: Conscious sedation, managing drips
• RTR: Scrubbing and panning
• Hybrid experience preferred but not mandatory
• Permanent staff will monitor cases

Support Staff on Unit

• Housekeeping for room turnover
• Storeroom staff manage supplies; rooms stocked by night shift Cath Lab employees
• Transporter available 06:30-20:00
• Receptionist/HUC available 06:00-20:00
• Charge nurse/Lead Tech present but tries to stay out of cases
• Respiratory Therapy 24/7 (manage vents if needed)
• Hospitalist 24/7
• Cardiology in-house 24/7
• Critical Response Team available for codes

Equipment and Charting

• EPIC electronic health record
• Alaris infusion pumps
• Pyxis medication dispensing system
• GE C-arms
• Other equipment (experience not required): Volcano, St. Jude, Alphavac, Angiovac, EKOS, Anari
• Hemodynamic monitoring: GE Pruka (Maclab)
• PACS: Fuji and ProSolv
• IABP: Maquet

Orientation

• 1 week orientation provided

Scheduling

• Department staffed 24/7
• 8 and 12 hour shifts available; travelers can work either or a combination
• Weekend shifts sometimes required, usually call only
• Call schedule:

  • Call shift from 12:00 to 20:30 on call day
  • On-call from end of shift until 06:00 next morning
  • Call rotation every 2-3 months for 7 consecutive days (Friday to Friday)
  • 30-minute response time required
• Time off requests: 7 days can be approved
• Holiday work possible depending on staffing needs

Policies and Other Notes

• Fatigue policy: max 60 hours/week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts for all staff including travelers
• Scrub color provided
• Free parking
