Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks (13 interpreted as weeks)
Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15), 36 hours per week
Patient Ratio: 1:6-7
Weekend Requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts (about every other weekend)
Floating: Required as needed, potential to float every shift

Job Description
- Floating required as needed, possibly every shift
- Patient population includes cardiac patients with diagnoses such as congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, and post cardiac catheterization
- Unit monitors cardiac patients and manages cardiac drips (Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Milrinone, Dopamine, etc.)
- Special procedures include sheath pulls, TR bands, Femstop
- Unit systems: Pyxis (medication), EPIC (documentation), SBAR (communication)
- Self-scheduling per unit needs
- 24-hour unit orientation
- Navy scrubs required
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience
- Telemetry and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience required
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias and remote monitoring required
- Experience with pre/post cardiac catheterization, pre/post cardiac surgery, and sheath removal
- Skills in accessing ports, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care management
- Experience with cardiac drip titration (Diltiazem and Amiodarone)
- ACLS certification required
- First-time travelers accepted
- Locals accepted
Preferred Skills and Certifications
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- NIH Stroke Certification preferred
Contract and Work Conditions
- RTO (Request Time Off) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; excessive call-offs or RTO may lead to cancellation
- Contract staff expected to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments and may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters
- Consolidation to centralized office and reassignment to different units may occur mid-contract
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must pass with 82% or higher within 72 hours of assignment)
- Other certifications as applicable based on unit requirements (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, CPI for ER/BH nurses)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 90 days covering local, federal, national databases, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree earned
- State-specific searches including North Carolina Healthcare Personnel Registry and Division of Medical Assistance search within 90 days
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (30 days if past positive TB)
- Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: titer or 2 vaccines, no declinations accepted
- Varicella: titer or 2 vaccines, no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B: titer, series, or facility-specific declination if titer negative/equivocal
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 10/31)
- COVID-19 vaccine no longer required for travel staff as of 6/8/2023
Orientation and Facility Specific Requirements
- Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation required for travel staff; modules take up to 8 hours
- Confidentiality agreement, hospital policies acknowledgment, tobacco-free campus acknowledgment required
- Photo for badge (passport style, white background, business attire) required before start
- Medication Safety training module completion required
- Additional facility-specific documents and trainings may be required depending on assignment
Additional Notes
- Must interview prior to finalizing offer
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel acute care RNs
- Performance evaluations required if worked with Aya over 1 year
- Radiation badges required for Cath Lab, Radiology, Nuclear Med, Radiation Therapy, EP Lab, CT, X-Ray, and Interventional Radiology staff
