Job Opportunity: Adult/Pediatric Occupational Therapist (OT)

Location: Willmar, Minnesota
Specialty: Therapy/Rehabilitation
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work schedule: 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (Monday-Friday)
  • Shift times:
    • Monday-Thursday: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
    • Friday: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Patient population: Both adult and pediatric patients
  • Setting: Mostly pediatric hospital outpatient with some adult inpatient coverage as needed
  • Diagnoses: Wide variety
  • Skills required: Acute care, outpatient clinic, pediatrics
  • EPIC experience preferred
  • New graduate OTs with certification and prior pediatric experience as a COTA are considered
  • Traveler’s primary residence must be more than 25 miles from the facility

Requirements & Compliance

Background Checks

  • Criminal background check within 1 year, including:
    • 7-year search
    • SS trace
    • Counties
    • Sex offender registry
    • Nationwide check
    • Education verification (not required for CNAs)
    • International searches if candidate lived/worked outside the US
  • GSA/SAM excluded provider check required
  • HHS/OIG excluded provider check required
  • Diploma acceptable in lieu of third-party education verification (proof of verification attempts required)
  • Minnesota DHS Net Study Fingerprint required (no pending fingerprints allowed to start)
  • Candidates must complete MN DHS Net Study Questionnaire immediately after signing contract
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 2 weeks of registration
  • Agencies must comply with fingerprinting requirements and timelines

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA required (if applicable)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA required (if applicable)
  • Other certifications as applicable to role and facility requirements

Licensure

  • Primary source verification of state license required
  • Minnesota CNA licenses expire at 12:00 AM on expiration date; RN/LPN licenses expire at 11:59 PM on expiration date
  • State license not required for certain non-clinical or specific tech positions

Competencies

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required for RNs (updated annually)
  • Competency exams required as applicable by profession (80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score, updated annually)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask (N95) required; onsite fitting available
  • Tdap vaccination required (no religious declination accepted)
  • TB testing per Minnesota state guidelines (2-step PPD or equivalent within 90 days)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - positive titer or 2 vaccines required (time sensitive)
  • Hepatitis B vaccination, positive titer, or declination accepted
  • Varicella - positive titer or 2 vaccines required (time sensitive)
  • Flu seasonal vaccination or declination required annually (mask required if declined)
  • COVID-19 vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemptions accepted
  • COVID-19 booster required only for LTC candidates with specific testing and masking protocols if not boosted
  • Drug testing: 9-panel within 1 year, not required for client clearance but must be set up

Facility Specific Information

  • Photo for badge required (grey background, no selfies, JPG format)
  • Dress code must be reviewed prior to start (RRTs wear light gray scrubs)
  • Education modules completed during orientation (average 16 hours)
  • Confidentiality agreement must be signed prior to start
  • Candidates must return badges on last day of assignment
  • COVID-19 exemption forms and processes available for religious and medical exemptions

References & History

  • Two references from recent employers within 2 years required (non-clinical roles)
  • Skills checklist required for all clinical candidates
  • Work history verification required for non-clinical candidates (3 years)

This position offers a diverse caseload with both pediatric and adult patients in outpatient and inpatient settings, ideal for OTs with acute care and pediatric experience. New graduates with pediatric COTA experience are welcome to apply. Compliance with Minnesota-specific fingerprinting and health requirements is mandatory.
