Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (OR RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Toledo, Ohio
Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, largest acute care hospital in Toledo metro area
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • First-time Travelers: Not accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: No
  • On-call Requirement: Yes, one shift per week
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted if within 50 miles
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Float: Floating within scope to meet facility needs may be required
  • Previous Charge Experience: Required

Required Skills & Competencies

  • General OR procedures including:
    • Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection
    • Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical)
    • Mastectomy
    • Thyroidectomy (partial/total)
    • Abdominal/Vaginal hysterectomy
    • Laparoscopic assisted procedures (general and gynecological)
  • Robotics: Da Vinci Xi Surgical System, Gastrointestinal and Gynecologic robotic surgery
  • Trauma experience: Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor Vehicle Accidents (multiple injuries)
  • Fire Safety, Latex Allergy management, Malignant Hyperthermia
  • Electrosurgical units, Infection control, Radiation Safety
  • Specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure
  • EPIC electronic health record system (required)
  • Circulating and Scrub skills (preferred)
  • Telemetry experience (preferred)
  • Level 1 Trauma experience (preferred)
  • Teaching hospital experience (preferred)

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI cards accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI cards accepted
  • EPIC proficiency (required)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • 7-year background check within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks, updated annually
  • Fingerprinting: Ohio BCI and FBI fingerprint results required within 12 months of start for applicable units; updated annually
  • Education verification of highest level required
  • State license primary source verification required
  • NURSYS verification for RN licenses required
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable unless on prescription)
  • Physical exam within last 12 months (latex-free PPE available)
  • N95 Fit Test within 12 months, updated annually (KN95 not accepted)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 3 months, annual updates)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - positive titer, 2 vaccines, or approved exemption
    • Varicella - positive titer, 2 vaccines, or approved exemption
    • Hepatitis B series, positive titer, or declination
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved exemption (required during flu season)

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references within 2 years, including at least one from a leader (Charge RN or above)
  • Skills checklist required for all candidates
  • Radiation badges issued by facility if applicable (not recruiter responsibility)
  • Dress code adherence as per facility guidelines
  • Completion of facility-specific forms prior to start (e.g., agency jot form)

Work Environment

  • Level I Trauma Center with 22 staffed beds
  • Free parking provided
  • Scrub color provided by facility
  • Charting via EPIC system

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with prior charge experience and proficiency in EPIC, who are comfortable working in a high-acuity Level I trauma center with a diverse patient population and a variety of surgical specialties including robotics.
