Cardiology IR Contract Opportunity
Position Overview
- Role: Interventional Radiology (IR) Nurse (RN) or Radiologic Technologist (RT(R))
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Ability to independently circulate and scrub IR procedures ranging from basic to complex
- Neuro IR experience required for RN; RTs without Neuro experience require manager approval
- Neuro IR procedures include strokes, embolization, DSA, WADA test, spinal angios (not performed at night)
- General IR procedures include kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty, central line/PICC/ports, fistulograms, IVC filter, nephrostomy tubes, nephroureteral stents, peripheral leg cases, coil embolization, thoracentesis/paracentesis, CT biopsies, drains, AAA intervention preferred
- Approximately 40-50 patients seen daily
- Department staffed 24/7; adult patients only (no pediatrics)
Required Licensure and Certifications
- RN: BLS, ACLS
- RT(R): ARRT, BLS, Wisconsin License
Skills and Experience
- RN: Experience with IR patient types, sedation administration (unless anesthesia involved), monitoring and charting
- RT(R): Scrubbing and panning simultaneously, experience with general IR cases; coding/charging experience preferred but not required
- Experience with Siemens and GE imaging equipment preferred
- Ultrasound (GE), IVUS, Laser, Bovie, Angiojet experience not required but a plus
Technology and Equipment
- EMR: EPIC (experience preferred for RNs)
- IV pumps: Alaris
- Medication dispensing: Pyxis
- PACS: Change Healthcare
- Injector: MedRad
Unit Support
- Two coordinators (Receptionist/HUC)
- Two lead techs
- Two techs per exam room, sometimes three for complex cases
- Tech specialists available
- Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist support 24/7
- CNA/Transporter available 24/7; may assist with patient transport
Orientation and Scheduling
- Orientation with preceptor for 1-2 weeks with competency check-off
- Weekend rotation: Call
- On-call details:
- RT(R) weekday call: 1 shift/week (Mon-Thurs), ends next day at 7:00 AM
- RT(R) weekend call: once every 5th weekend, ends Monday at 7:00 AM
- RN weekday call: 1 shift/week (Mon-Thurs), ends next day at 7:00 AM
- RN weekend call: once every 5th or 6th weekend, ends Monday at 7:00 AM
- Call specifics:
- Neuro call only for those with Neuro IR experience; otherwise general IR call
- Travelers with both Neuro and General IR experience may be asked to take both calls
- No call required for overnight shifts
- Response time: 30 minutes
- Holiday call currently not required but may change
- Return to Office (RTO) approval up to 7 days
- Shift times when on call:
- General IR: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Neuro IR: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
- Shift flexibility: Manager open to adjusting shift lengths (e.g., four 10-hour shifts instead of five 8-hour shifts)
