Job Opportunity: Med/Surg Telemetry Nurse (Float Role)

Location

• Plattsburgh, NY
• Facility has 341 beds
• Unit: Med/Surg Telemetry (M/S TELE), including ED Hold and Resource Float
• Trauma Level 2 facility
• Non-teaching hospital

Unit Details

• Unit Beds:

  • R5: 24 beds (Med Surg Oncology)
  • R6: 24 beds (Med Surg Orthopedics)
  • R7: 25 beds (Med Surg Urology/ALC)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • R5 & R6: 1:4
  • R7: 1:5 (adjustable)
• Ancillary Staff per shift:

  • CNAs/PCTs: R5 & R6 = 3, R7 = 4
  • Unit Clerks/Secretaries: 1 per unit
• Advanced Practice Providers: Not present on unit
• Respiratory support available 24/7; ventilators managed by ICU respiratory team

Job Requirements

• Minimum 2 years acute care nursing experience
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Minimum 1 year clinical experience in specialty (Med/Surg Telemetry)
• Current NY nursing license or proof of application (NY licensing takes 6-8 weeks)
• AHA BLS certification required
• Epic EMR experience within past 2 years required (non-negotiable)
• Must be flexible to float between units R5, R6, R7, and other telemetry units as needed
• Float role includes working in ECC/ER for ED Hold patients
• Must work at least every other weekend
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day/Eve)

Orientation & Scheduling

• Orientation: 1 day, bi-weekly sessions (next available 12/29)
• Scheduling: Not self-scheduled; no block schedules
• Shift hours and rotation schedule to be posted
• Weekend and holiday requirements apply
• No charge nurse responsibilities

Patient Population & Procedures

• Patient age range: 25-99 years
• Diagnoses: Oncology, Orthopedics, Urology, ALC patients on Med/Surg Telemetry
• Unit-specific procedures: IV insertion, bladder scans, blood draws from central lines, glucose monitoring
• Equipment: IV pumps, bladder scanners
• Documentation system: EPIC
• Medication system transitioning from MAK to EPIC

Additional Information

• Reliable personal transportation required (public transit not available)
• Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires November through April
• Must provide complete work history including bed count, EMR, and facility type
• Assignment length: Approximately 26 weeks (interpreted as 26 weeks)

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry nurses comfortable with floating across multiple units and working in a fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and strong acute care skills.
