Registered Nurse (L&D) - Travel/Contract
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Facility Type: Level I Trauma, Children's Hospital, Teaching Hospital, Short term, Acute Care

Contract Details
- Length: 13 weeks
- Hours: 36, 40, or 48 hours per week contracts available
- Schedule:
- No guaranteed block schedule
- No specific weekend requirements; scheduling is difficult and weekend days off cannot be guaranteed
- On-call required: 4x12s (12 hours over 4 weeks) or 3x12s (24 hours over 4 weeks)
- Locals: Not accepted within 75 miles
- Pending License: New Mexico license can pend at time of submission
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Greater than 7 days off requires approval
- Overtime: OT after 48 hours on all contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025
Position Details
- Specialty: Labor & Delivery (L&D)
- Ratios: 1:2 nurse to patient ratio
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in L&D
- First-timers: Accepted
- Floating: Yes, within scope to antepartum and postpartum units
- Special Requirements:
- Circulate and Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) skills required
- Experience in a large L&D unit/facility mandatory
- Must have experience with 3s/4s in postpartum, baby nurse duties, and meconium deliveries
- Special Procedures/Unit Details:
- Cerclage, version, Cesarean Section (C/S), postpartum tubal ligation (PPTL)
- External and internal fetal monitoring, artificial rupture of membranes (AROM)
- Medically assisted deliveries, C-hyst, neonatal palliative care
- Nitrous oxide use, massive transfusion protocol, malignant hyperthermia management
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for L&D, NICU, and Mother/Baby units (RQI not accepted)
Licensure
- New Mexico RN license required (can be pending at submission)
- Must bring original NM license with 3D seal onsite for display
Vaccination & Health Requirements
- COVID-19 vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with completed exemption form
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted
- Drug screen negative within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Fit mask testing required within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted)
- Immunizations required:
- Rubeola (Measles) - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Mumps - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Rubella - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer (history of disease not accepted)
- Hepatitis B - Declination, series, or titer
Background & Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (NM Department of Health clearance)
- Education verification required (diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable)
- Two professional references within three years of hire
- Work history verification for 3 years required
Additional Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (Aya requirement)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam) required for L&D and other units
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
- UNMH Traveler Compliance Form and Background Registration must be completed prior to start
- Cerner charting system used; Cerner training attestation required for new hires starting 8/4/25 orientation group
- Scrubs provided (purple)
- Free parking available
Notes
- No RQI certifications accepted for required certifications
- Location is not near public transportation; valid non-local driver’s license required
- Must have experience with large L&D units and specific procedures as noted
- Managing schedule is difficult; no guaranteed weekend days off
- OT applies after 48 hours worked per week starting 10/30/2025
