Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Cardiovascular Unit (Telemetry)
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Unit: Cardiovascular Unit - Telemetry (3N, 54-bed cardiac unit)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour days (07:00 - 19:30)
- Call Requirements: None
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirements: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed but managers will try to accommodate
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year
- First-timers Accepted: Yes
- Locals Accepted: No, must live at least 50 miles away from the facility
Patient Population & Unit Info
- Main Cardiac Telemetry unit
- Patients primarily on cardiac monitors, monitored remotely and on the unit
- Patient diagnoses include: heart failure, STEMI/NSTEMI heart attacks, stroke (requiring cardiac monitoring), cardiac arrhythmias, chest pain
- Cardiac drips administered
- May take overflow medical patients if needed
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification) - Required for all RNs, to be completed through BlueCloud
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in, required within 90 days of start and annually thereafter (not annually for APN)
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
- Physical exam required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD or Qgold within 1 year; T-Spots not accepted)
- TB questionnaire required prior to start and annually
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant accepted if needed for quick start)
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious declination required prior to start and documentation on file by 12/15
- COVID vaccine medical exemption allowed with proper documentation
Additional Information
- Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
- Charting system: Cerner Powerchart
- On-site EKG exam required for Monitor Techs (not RN-specific)
- Facility requires completion of multiple modules (~8-10 hours) prior to start; paid for module completion
- Photo for badge required (passport-style, .jpeg format)
- Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement required prior to start
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized cardiac telemetry unit with a diverse cardiac patient population, requiring strong cardiac monitoring skills and certifications. The role is suited for nurses with at least one year of experience who are comfortable with telemetry and cardiac care.
