Occupational Therapist - Travel/Contract

Location: Akron, Ohio
Specialty: Therapy/Rehabilitation
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)


Work Schedule

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday
  • Hours can be scheduled between 7:30 AM and 6:00 PM

Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist evaluates, assesses, and treats patients with a variety of physical, educational, or psychosocial disabilities using professional knowledge and behaviors.


Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, assess, and treat patients with diverse disabilities
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members
  • Perform documentation and provide patient/family education
  • Supervise COTA/L, volunteers, or students according to OT regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy (Master’s preferred)
  • Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
  • Current Ohio state licensure
  • Experience in occupational therapy required
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software
  • Preferred 3 to 5 years of relevant experience

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with all organizational levels
  • Healthcare experience preferred

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid government-issued photo ID required on assignment
  • 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national criminal, sex offender, and education verification
  • Ohio BCI and FBI fingerprint results required within 1 month of start; must be updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and must be updated annually
  • Education verification or diploma/transcript required
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • Immunizations and titers required: Tdap (within 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer or vaccine series or declination)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months of start
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, with new screen required after breaks in service of 30+ days
  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Nov 15 - May 31)
  • Unit-specific competency exams and annual updates required
  • Candidate must sign facility-specific agreements including computer security, HIPAA/confidentiality, and privacy training
  • References: Two positive professional references required, including at least one from the most recent employer
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area

Certifications (as applicable)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only, required for all travelers except certain roles
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Required for specific units (not required for OT)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - Required for specific pediatric units (not required for OT)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - Required for NICU (not required for OT)
  • Other certifications may be preferred depending on unit assignment

Additional Notes

  • Supervision experience is not required
  • Must comply with all facility-specific policies and complete required documentation promptly
  • Fingerprint clearance attestation required for Ohio

This position offers an opportunity to work in a pediatric hospital setting providing occupational therapy services to children with diverse needs.
