Job Opportunity: Inpatient Social Worker (Travel/Contract)

Location: Randallstown, Maryland

Job Description

  • Provide inpatient social work services focusing on Emergency Department (ED) and medical inpatient coverage.
  • Work schedule: 40 hours per week, 4 shifts of 10 hours each (08:30 AM - 07:00 PM).
  • Work every 4th weekend (may be up to every other weekend depending on agency).
  • One holiday per year as staff.
  • Orientation period: approximately 3 days.
  • Minimum 2 years of hospital inpatient med-surg or critical care discharge planning experience required.
  • No therapists needed.
  • Maryland license must be active and in hand.

Required Credentials & Licenses

  • LMSW or LCSW-C.
  • Maryland state license (active).
  • Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
  • Education verification and accreditation confirmation.
  • Professional references (2 within 2 years).
  • Employment application and work history verification (2 workplaces within last 7 years).

Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA Provider Certification or equivalent.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA Provider Certification or equivalent.
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit description (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, Crisis Prevention Institute).
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific skills.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (if applicable) with strict attempt limits and remediation process.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to meet essential job functions.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
  • Annual TB questionnaire.
  • Immunizations: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer), Hepatitis B, Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Respirator fit test (for clinical staff; completed onsite).

Facility & Compliance Requirements

  • Badge photo required.
  • Completion of facility-specific forms including parking registration, attendance policy, floating policy, and consent to release information.
  • ReadySet account setup and completion of health assessment surveys prior to start.
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing policies.
  • Stroke and Trauma CEUs as required by unit; must be current and completed timely.
  • EKG study guide provided if EKG exam is required.
  • Compliance with I9 and E-Verify documentation.

Work Environment & Additional Information

  • Facility is part of a hospital system with specific policies for contracted staff.
  • Candidate must be prepared to float as needed.
  • Orientation includes safety manual acknowledgement and HIPAA compliance.
  • Candidate must be able to start promptly and meet all compliance requirements for a smooth onboarding process.

This position is ideal for experienced inpatient social workers with a strong background in medical-surgical or critical care discharge planning, who hold an active Maryland license and are ready to work a travel contract with a reputable hospital system.
