Job Opportunity: Acute Care RN - Illinois (Peoria)
Unit Details
- Department: Acute Care G200
- Beds: 29 beds (typical census 22-26, target 25)
- Room Type: Mix of private and semi-private rooms
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 4-5 patients per nurse
- Nights: 5-6 patients per nurse
Patient Population & Care
- Wide range of medical diagnoses including:
- GI bleeds
- Sepsis
- Cellulitis
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
- COVID-19
- Comfort measures
- Osteomyelitis
- Elderly patients who fall
- Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
- Pulmonary embolisms
- Patients may leave for surgery or procedures and return to the unit
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips (Heparin only)
- Common drips: Heparin only
- RNs expected to attempt IV starts; inpatient phlebotomy team available for blood draws
Staffing & Support
- 24-hour Charge RN coverage; charge RN goal is to be free of patient assignment
- 24-hour Crisis RN coverage
- Administrative supervisor available 24/7
- 24-hour Patient Care Technician (PCT) coverage with a ratio of 1:10
- Telemetry monitored remotely by house-wide telemetry department; unit uses primarily Phillips equipment
- Unit clerk (PCL) with 24-hour coverage
Equipment
- No ventilators on unit
- Oxygen up to 6L nasal cannula
- Stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or as needed
Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts: 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Day shift weekends: Saturday and Sunday
- Night shift weekends: Friday and Saturday
- Holiday rotation required
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating: Travel RNs float first as needed to other med/surg units (no ICU or chemo patients)
Orientation & Dress Code
- Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts
- Scrub color: Any color, staff provide their own (no pediatric scrubs)
Requirements & Notes
- Must have BLS certification and active Illinois RN license (or application in process)
- Drug-free campus: negative drug screen required for all panels
- Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
- OSF Call Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty
Contract Length
- 18 weeks
This position is suitable for RNs experienced in acute care medical units with a variety of medical diagnoses and comfortable with titrating heparin drips and working in a supportive team environment.
