Description

Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Long Term Care (LTC)

Location: Union, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Setting: Long Term Care (LTC)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Patient Ratio: 1:44 (high patient ratio, must be comfortable)
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year LTC experience
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: As needed
  • Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local Radius Rule: No locals accepted within 75 miles
  • Pending License: Accepted if obtained before start
  • Guaranteed Hours: Based on signed contract hours
  • Holiday Requirement:
    • Either 1 holiday with 2 on-call/additional shifts per 6 weeks
    • OR 2 holidays with no on-call/additional shifts
  • Attendance Policy: Missing more than two shifts without reasonable explanation in a 13-week contract may lead to contract review/cancellation

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required (AHA or RQI acceptable)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Preferred for RNs
  • Other certifications (as applicable based on unit):
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
    • STABLE
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing: Required for RNs (not for Allied, CNA, LVN/LPN, or Home Health RNs)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for RNs; includes arrhythmia and drug calculation tests with two chances to pass

Licensure & Verification

  • State License: Primary source verification required before start
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • Pending License: Accepted if obtained before start

Background Checks & Education Verification

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • South Carolina statewide search required regardless of residence/work history
  • Education verification required for all candidates:
    • RNs: Highest level of education (Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate)
    • CNAs/LVNs: High school diploma/GED verification
    • Allied/Non-Clinical: Highest level of education verification; certificates alone not accepted as highest education
  • Transcript/Diploma required from highest education level
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit Mask: Within 1 year of start; approved mask types (N-95 BYD, Duckbill, 3M-1860); can be completed onsite with approval
  • TB Screening: Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
  • Vaccinations or Exemptions Required:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or declination)
    • Varicella
    • Seasonal Flu (documentation or declination required during flu season)
    • COVID-19 (Dose 1 and 2 required or declination form)
  • Drug Testing: Within 60 days of start; 10-panel plus Oxycodone and Marijuana

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required within 1 year of start and updated annually
  • Competency Exam: Required within 1 year of start and updated annually
  • Color Blind Testing: Required if working in lab roles (MLT/MLS, Histology Tech, Microbiology Tech)

Additional Requirements

  • References: 2 references within 1 year of start (Qualivis requirement)
  • Employment Application: Required
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for applicable units
  • Facility Specific Documents:
    • Facility-specific orientation and compliance documents required
    • Photo for badge (headshot on plain background) required

Important Notes

  • Must be comfortable working with a high patient ratio (1:44) in LTC setting
  • No block scheduling accommodations
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be included in initial submission; late requests will not be considered
  • Attendance is closely monitored; excessive unexcused absences may lead to contract cancellation

This position is ideal for RNs with LTC experience who are flexible with scheduling and comfortable managing a high patient load in a travel/contract role.
