Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Athens, Georgia
Specialty: Registered Nurse

Experience & Patient Population

  • Minimum 2 years nursing experience
  • 1st time travelers accepted
  • Patient population: Adults to Geriatrics

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Georgia State Nursing License

Work Setting & Unit Details

  • Work settings: Interventional Radiology (IR), Emergency Room (ER), Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Support IR and Vascular surgeons
  • Facilities include 1 IR suite and 1 OR hybrid room
  • Average daily census: 15 patients
  • Electronic Health Record system: Epic
  • Scrub color: Any color allowed

Scheduling & Work Requirements

  • Return to Office (RTO) maximum: 7 days
  • Weekend shifts: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Yes
  • Call requirements: 4-5 shifts per month
  • Holiday work expectations:
    • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it
    • If 2 major holidays fall, expected to work both
    • If 3 major holidays fall, expected to work 2 of them
  • Major holidays include: New Year’s Eve/Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day

Orientation & Screening

  • Clinical screening required to determine fit before manager approval
  • Number of Non-Billable Orientation (NBO) hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)

Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for RNs)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
  • Competency Exam (required for Nursing and Allied Health by agency)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, ER, ICU, and related units)
    • Up to 3 attempts allowed; failure on 3rd attempt results in cancellation

Background & Health Requirements

  • Background check required within 30 days prior to start, including:
    • Criminal searches, sex offender registry, education verification
  • Education verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (with specific protocols if positive history)
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B series or signed declination
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; cannot start with results pending
  • Flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)

Documentation & Compliance

  • Must review and sign Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start
  • Skills checklist updated within 12 months required
  • Verification of most recent work history required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process
  • Two clinical references required

This position offers a dynamic work environment supporting IR and vascular surgery teams with a focus on adult to geriatric patient care in a hospital setting using Epic. Candidates must meet strict certification, competency, and health screening requirements to ensure compliance and patient safety.
