Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Specialty: Registered Nurse (OR RN)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Facility Type: Short-Term Acute Care Hospital
  • Beds: 210 staffed beds
  • Unit: Operating Room (13 OR rooms)
  • Specialties Covered: All surgical specialties except transplant
  • Robotics: 2 Xi DaVinci robots available
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Parking: Free
  • Scrub Color: Provided (scrubs required)

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years (screening at 1.5 years acceptable)
  • First Timers: Accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes
  • On-Call: Rotates with entire team on weeknights and weekends
  • Floating: No floating outside scope of practice
  • Block Schedule: To be discussed
  • Local Candidates: Accepted (with a local radius policy)
  • License: Indiana RN license required and must be in hand before starting (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Holiday Work: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Shift Options:
    • 8 or 10 hour shifts (40 hours/week)
    • 3 twelve-hour shifts (36 hours/week)
    • 4 twelve-hour shifts (48 hours/week)

Specialty & Unit Information

  • Ratios: 1:1 patient ratio
  • Certifications Required: BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) minimum
  • Special Requirements:
    • Scrubs required
    • Experience with 3-4's in Neuro and Ortho
    • General surgery, urology, Endo/Laparoscopic, Podiatry, Robotics
  • Preferred Experience: Vascular, Thoracic, Plastics, ENT

Important Notes

  • Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at IU Health facilities except:
    • Perioperative/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers are exempt and may continue working past this date.
    • Periop includes ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Valid Indiana RN license (primary source verification within 30 days of start)
    • BLS (AHA or RQI accepted)
    • ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, NIH Stroke, EFM as applicable per unit
  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year work/life history including SSN trace, county/state/national checks, sex offender registry, FACIS Level III
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education Verification: Highest applicable education verified by 3rd party
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology test and unit competency exam required
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months of start
    • Fit mask test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Immunizations or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
    • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment with supervisory titles
  • Employment Application: Current with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Skills Checklist: Completed within 12 months and updated annually
  • Facility Specific Forms: Must complete required IU Health compliance and orientation documents prior to start

Additional Information

  • Scrubs are provided by the facility.
  • On-site fit testing is limited and must be approved in advance if required.
  • Must be willing to work required holidays and weekend shifts.
  • Local candidates accepted with specific local radius policy applied.
