Travel RN Opportunity – Med-Surg Cardiac Medical Unit
Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Unit: Med-Surg Cardiac Medical Unit (23 beds)
Unit Overview
- Staffing:
- Total Staff: 58
- Day Shift: CNC/Charge Nurse, 6 RNs, 2 PCTs, 1 MT, 1 Dept Coordinator (until 7pm)
- Night Shift: CNC/Charge Nurse, 5 RNs, 2 PCTs, 1 MT
- Patient Ratios:
- Day/Evening: 1 RN to 4 patients
- Night: 1 RN to 5 patients
- Equipment:
- Telemetry monitoring (some rooms hard-wired)
- Vein finder for IV therapy
- Portable and continuous pulse oximetry
- Manual/automatic vital sign machines
- Blood glucose monitors
- Mechanical lifts, dopplers
- EMR System: Allscripts with medication scanning and soft-lab capabilities
Patient Population
- Cardiac medical patients including:
- Hemodynamically stable MI
- Acute/chronic heart failure
- New onset atrial fibrillation (with or without RVR)
- Stable dysrhythmias
- Procedural patients:
- Cardiac catheterizations (radial or femoral, without interventions)
- Ablations, cardioversions, ICD, pacemakers, CardioMEMS, pericardial drains
- Patients requiring cardiac drips such as:
- Amiodarone, diltiazem, dopamine (renal dose), dobutamine, milrinone, Lasix (up to 40mg), insulin drips
- Additional populations:
- ICU transfers
- Neurological patients (stroke/CVA)
- Pulmonary patients requiring BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and Salter therapy
Required Skills and Certifications
- Must Have:
- Cardiac telemetry knowledge
- ACLS certification
- Experience with cardiac medical patients, procedural patients (caths), and cardiac drips
- Preferred:
- Strong medical-surgical background with telemetry experience
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS
- BLS
- NIH Certification
- Licenses:
- Registered Nurse License
Typical Procedures on Unit
- Cardiac catheterizations (left/right, femoral/radial approach) without intervention
- Pacemakers, ablations, cardioversions, electrophysiology studies
- Administration of cardiac drips: Amiodarone, diltiazem, dopamine (renal dose), dobutamine, milrinone, Lasix, insulin drips
Work Environment and Culture
- Personality Fit: Engaging, team-oriented, flexible/adaptable, patient-centered
- Floating Areas: Similar cardiac/medical-surgical units
- Dress Code: Hospital scrubs
- Schedule: Every other weekend required
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
This position is ideal for RNs with strong cardiac telemetry skills and experience caring for complex cardiac patients in a fast-paced medical-surgical environment.
