Job Description
- Position requires Certified Surgical Tech (CVOR) with scrub experience.
- Shifts vary between 6:30 AM and 11:00 PM, including call coverage. Schedule is flexible and hours will be assigned based on need.
- Shift pattern includes 2x8 or 2x12 hour shifts.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 5 years total CST experience.
- At least 2 years experience in cardiac and vascular surgery.
- Minimum 1 year CVOR experience.
- Minimum 1 year experience in a Level I Trauma facility.
- Experience with cardiovascular/thoracic instrument reprocessing.
- Proficient in general OR, thoracic, vascular, and CVOR procedures such as CABG, EVAR, TEVAR, valve replacement, etc.
- Skilled in aseptic technique, crash cart management, scrub & circulate roles, and equipment documentation.
- Familiarity with EPIC charting system.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable).
- Tech Certification Verification (National) required within 30 days of start.
- State License Verification within 30 days of start.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit.
- Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and MVR if driving is required.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific codes; must be completed prior to start or have pending attestation.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring required.
- Education accreditation confirmation required immediately after contract signing.
- Transcript/Diploma verification required (including for foreign education).
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required.
- Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required.
- Ethics and Compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required annually.
- MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer without proof of vaccines.
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining.
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination collected if available.
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Unit-specific competency exams required, including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exams for RNs.
- EKG remediation process in place for candidates who do not pass on first attempt.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity cardiac surgical environment requiring advanced surgical tech skills and flexibility in scheduling. Candidates must meet strict credentialing, background, and health requirements to comply with facility and regulatory standards.
