Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Berlin, Vermont
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med-Surg: Acute Med-Surg Tele RN)

Job Description
- Assignment start date: December 22
- Duration: 21 weeks
- Unit: Med-Surg Telemetry
- Schedule: Minimum every other weekend or adjusted to unit/patient needs
- Responsibilities include:
- NG tube insertion
- Peripheral IV insertion
- Telemetry strip interpretation (bedside)
- Holiday work requirement: Must work 2 out of 4 holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve, New Year's Day)
Requirements
- Certifications:
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) required before starting
- Telemetry certification preferred
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years Med-Surg Tele experience OR 3 years Tele experience
- Prior travel experience required
- Must have completed 2 travel assignments in 300+ bed facilities OR prior experience at any UVMHN acute care facility
- EPIC experience within the past 2 years is mandatory
- Reliable personal or rental vehicle required (no public transportation available)
- Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires from November through April
Orientation & Scheduling
- Orientation offered bi-weekly on Mondays
- No block schedules allowed
- Monday to Sunday shifts
Background & Compliance Checks
- Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Education verification based on job requirements
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start and upon expiration
- NURSYS verification for nursing licenses within 30 days of start and updated annually
- Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry consent and search required
- Vermont Crime Information Center (VCIC) criminal background check required for Vermont placements
- COVID-19 vaccination attestation and questionnaire required
- Drug testing required for NY facilities (not required for VT)
Certifications & Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for all RNs)
- Color Blind Testing (required)
- Competency exams as required by specialty
- Annual fit mask (N95) test required prior to assignment
- Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption required (strict for VT placements)
- Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within past 12 months
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination required for NY facilities
Health & Safety Documents
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- COVID testing protocol on Day 1 of work (masking and social distancing required)
- Annual TB questionnaire if positive TB test
- Annual flu vaccination documentation required by October 31
Facility Specific Requirements
- Passport-style photo for badge (plain background, no logos or hats)
- Review of dress code and telephone usage policies prior to start
- Completion of auto registration form within 48 hours of signed contract
- Completion of EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start (8 hours, non-billable)
- Emergency contact form completion required
- Hepatitis B and pneumonia declination forms if applicable
- NameTag verification setup required
- Workday information attestation required
Additional Notes
- All employment gaps over 90 days must be explained
- Complete work history including bed count, EMR, and facility type required for submission
- Reliable transportation is essential due to lack of public transit
- Vehicle must be equipped for winter conditions during November-April
