Registered Nurse - CVICU (Travel/Contract)
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Contract Length: 10 weeks
Unit Details
- 42-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) specializing in open heart surgery
- Average 6-8 bypass pump surgical cases per day
- Post-surgical heart transplants and LVAD care
- Requires immediate post open heart surgical admission experience
- Experience with Swan Ganz catheters, manual thermodilution syringe for Cardiac Index calculation, epicardial/transvenous pacing wires
- Common diagnoses: Advanced Heart Failure, Multi-vessel Disease, Coronary Artery Disease, Pulmonary Hypertension, Valvular Heart Disease
- Common bedside procedures: bronchoscopies, intubations, tracheostomies, central line insertions, arterial line and Swan Ganz catheter insertions
Schedule
- Weekend: Every other weekend
- Call: None
- Floating: Within facility/scope of practice as needed
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years CVICU experience (prior to travel)
- EPIC experience required
- Unit accepts first-time travelers
Orientation & Compliance
- Maximum Return to Orientation (RTO) time: 7 days
- Full compliance required to start on time; non-compliance results in 2-week delay due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 10 hours for 10-week assignment)
Holiday Work Expectations
- If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler expected to work it
- If 2 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work both
- If 3 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work 2 of them
- Major holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day
Licensure & Certifications
- State License verification required (Georgia)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Other certifications may be required depending on specialty (PALS, NRP, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification)
- Annual NURSYS verification required
- Allied annual license verification if applicable
Background & Health Requirements
- Background check required within 30 days of start, including education verification
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (no pending results allowed)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and titers required:
- TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months, with additional requirements if positive
- TB Questionnaire updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer, boosters allowed to pend if eligible
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer, boosters allowed to pend if eligible
- Hepatitis B series or surface antibody titer or signed declination (special compliance for privileging specialties)
- Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
Competency Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required for RNs
- Color Blind Testing required for all candidates
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for ICU and related specialties (3 attempts allowed)
- Competency Exam required for Nursing and Allied by Aya only
Additional Notes
- Locals accepted at same rate
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start
- References: 2 clinical references required by Aya (not client)
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
- Work history verification required (can be pending at start with proof running)
This position is ideal for experienced CVICU nurses with strong cardiac surgical ICU skills, looking for a travel contract in a high-acuity cardiovascular ICU setting.
