Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Emergency Room) - Illinois

Location

Position Details

  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in an urban, Level I Trauma Emergency Department (Teaching Hospital experience preferred)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating Requirement: Yes
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Maximum 7 days
  • Charting System: Epic

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider or AHA RQI only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider or AHA RQI only
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA provider or AHA RQI only

Certifications Preferred

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required for ER and Behavioral Health clinical candidates; may be completed onsite twice per month

Experience & Skills

  • Must have at least 1 year of experience in the specialty or comparable/higher acuity area
  • Prior experience in an urban, Level I Trauma ED required
  • First-time travelers accepted

Background & Verification Requirements

  • 7-year background check including aliases, sex offender, counties, national federal, criminal, FACIS III, OFAC, education verification, and international checks if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required for highest level of education (ADN or BSN for RN)
  • Fingerprinting required for candidates without Illinois state license; must be done in Illinois and completed no later than the Monday before start date
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of assignment start
  • Employment verification for last 7 years
  • 2 professional references required

Health & Immunization Requirements (Time Sensitive)

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (3M 1860 S/R, 1870+, or 9205+ masks)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination or declination (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire if positive TB
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
    • Varicella
  • Drug testing: 9-panel minimum within 30 days of start, updated annually (no rapid drug screens)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination/Documentation for 2025-26 flu season (Oct 1, 2025 - Mar 31, 2026); religious or medical exemptions require facility approval; declinations not accepted

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Passport-style photo for badge (plain background, forward facing, no headgear)
  • Completion of COVID-19 and Influenza exemption forms if applicable (must be submitted at least one week prior to documentation due date)
  • Compliance with facility-specific background attestation if applicable

Additional Notes

  • Must have all required certifications from approved providers (AHA only; RQI from other providers not accepted)
  • Floating to other units may be required; skills checklist must be updated annually
  • Candidates must be prepared for every other weekend work and floating assignments
  • Illinois Health Care Worker Registry search required for candidates without Illinois state license
