Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Maryville, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Unit: Medical/Surgical Telemetry (MS/Tele) - 3rd Med Surg
• Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, PM shift (1900-0730)
• Scheduling: Allows block scheduling
• Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
• Accepts: First-time travelers
• Float Requirement: Float to 2 other Med Surg units
• Weekend Coverage: Every 2nd to 3rd weekend
• Preferred: Previous charge nurse experience

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred (if applicable)

Patient Population & Diagnoses

• Adults and Geriatrics only (no pediatrics)
• Covid patients
• Telemetry patients with stable dysrhythmias
• Post-surgical patients (orthopedic, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, general surgery)
• Chronic and acute medical conditions including:

  • Cancer (CA)
  • Diabetes
  • Renal disease
  • COPD
  • Pneumonia
  • Cellulitis
  • CVA (stroke)

Unit & Equipment Details

• 10 private rooms + 1 observation bed
• Telemetry monitoring for 4 patients
• Special equipment includes:

  • Safe Patient Handling Equipment
  • Bladder Scanner

Skills & Competencies

• Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Use of Rapid Response Teams
• IV insulin protocols
• Colostomy care
• Feeding tube care and management
• Pre/post hemodialysis management
• Renal failure care
• Blood product administration
• Phlebotomy
• Peripheral line and PICC line care/management
• Starting IVs
• Heparin administration
• Pre/post neurosurgery care
• Peripheral nerve block catheters
• Total joint replacements
• Surgical drains
• Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-Evac)
• Oxygen delivery (nasal cannula, face masks, portable tanks)
• Isolation precautions
• Wound care including Wound Vac

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
• Emergency contact form
• Background checks including:

  • County, Nationwide, Sex Offender, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Illinois Adult Abuse Registry Search
• Education verification (transcript or diploma acceptable)
• State nursing license verification (primary source)
• NURSYS verification for RN/LPN/LVN/AP
• Pass/fail medication and glucose meter competency testing during orientation
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask testing within 12 months
• Immunizations and titers as applicable:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) proof or declination
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Varicella (titer, vaccine, or history)
• 9-panel drug screen within 1 year
• COVID-19 exemptions allowed (medical and religious)
• References: 2 professional references within 2 years
• Resume required
• 7 years of work history verification (attestations allowed after 3 attempts)
• Annual skills checklist
