Travel Histology Technician - Columbus, Ohio

Shift Details
- 3rd shift, flexible hours: 15:00-23:30 or 23:00-07:30
- No weekends
- Some optional overtime available
Job Responsibilities
- Routine paraffin embedding
- Microtomy and sectioning for routine H&E staining
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and molecular procedures
- Processing information and office orders
- Minimal special staining and processing duties
Requirements
- Certification: ASCP-HT (American Society for Clinical Pathology - Histotechnician)
- Minimum 1 year hands-on histology experience, especially microtomy and paraffin embedding
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work independently within scheduled hours
Work Environment & Additional Info
- Lab is large, bright, and clean with advanced equipment including Leica microtomes, embedding stations, processors, automated stainers, and block filing systems
- Parking is free on 3rd shift but must be paid by employee otherwise
- Dress code: scrubs (any color), sweatshirts/jackets recommended due to cold lab environment; avoid offensive prints
- Earbuds allowed (one at a time), minimal phone use
- Locker provided for personal items; break room with kitchen facilities and disposable utensils available
- High workload due to backlog, so staying busy is expected
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Pre-approved time off must be submitted before contract confirmation
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation verification required immediately after contract signing
- High school diploma or equivalent required (for RRTs)
- Various facility-specific forms and acknowledgements including dress code, fraud/waste/abuse training, ethics and compliance policies
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and no contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (mask required if declined)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but recommended
Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications may be required depending on unit
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required for specific units
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification as applicable
- National tech certification verification required within 30 days of start (varies by role)
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- Unit-specific competency exams including medication and dysrhythmia/EKG exams (EKG exam required annually for RNs except certain exclusions)
References & History
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leader
