Travel RN Opportunity - Dallas, Texas

Position Details

Unit Information

  • Unit: 3S/PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
  • Number of Beds: 24
  • Number of Staff: 43
  • Shift Staffing:
    • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 8 RNs, and unit secretaries for 24 patients
    • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse and 8 RNs for 24 patients
  • Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 3 patients
  • Equipment Used: Baxter IV pumps, Hillrom beds, iMobile with Apple devices, telemetry
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Post-operative care for:
    • CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)
    • AVR/MVR (Aortic/Mitral Valve Replacement)
    • Aortic root repairs
    • LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device)
    • Immediate post VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery) including chest tubes
  • Post vascular surgeries
  • Pre/post cath lab and electrophysiology procedures (pacemaker/AICD, heart caths, PCIs, TAVR)
  • Bedside procedures such as paracentesis, thoracentesis, and PICC insertion

Required Skills and Experience

  • Must Have:
    • Accountability for actions
    • Knowledge of cardiac drips including Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Cardene, Cardizem
  • Preferred:
    • Strong communication skills with patients and interdisciplinary team
    • Minimum 6 months experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Certifications and Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NIH Certification
  • Registered Nurse License (valid in Texas)

Work Schedule and Environment

  • Dress Code: Royal Blue scrubs
  • Floating Areas: Med-Surg/Telemetry, Orthopedics
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule
  • On-call shifts may be required
