Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina

Job Description & Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 2 years RN experience
- Must have orthopedic (ortho) experience
- EPIC experience required; first-time travelers accepted if they have EPIC experience
Skills & Certifications Required
- IV Start
- Telemetry
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Charge Nurse experience
- Level I Trauma experience
Shift & Scheduling
- 12-hour night shifts: 18:45 - 07:15
- Options for 36 or 48 hours per week (no overtime until after 48 hours if chosen)
- Every other weekend required; if calling out on a weekend, time must be made up on a weekend
- Float requirement: Must float to other med-surg units as needed based on census
- Block scheduling options available (e.g., Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
Patient Population
- Average daily census: 37 patients
- Beds: 39
- Patient types: Orthopedic, Neuro spine, Med-surg, Post-surgical
- COVID patients are no longer cohorted; cared for on all units unless in ICU
Unit Environment
- Fast-paced unit
- Focus on pain management for ortho and spine patients
Time Off (RTO) Policy
- No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed and cannot be worked out onsite
- Call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation and Do Not Rehire (DNR) status
- No holiday RTO approved
- Maximum 7 days RTO allowed for auto-offer
Testing & Compliance
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
- Color blind test within 1 year required
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required with a minimum passing score of 82% (3 attempts allowed)

Background Checks
- Background check within 6 months of start (SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search)

- Education verification for highest degree earned (pending allowed for RNs with valid license)
- Transcript/Diploma as applicable
- High School Diploma/GED verification for Medical Lab Techs
Certifications
- BLS and NIH Stroke Certification required
- ACLS preferred
- Other certifications as applicable (e.g., TNCC, CHEMO, PALS, NRP) depending on unit and specialty
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Passport-style photo for badge (solid white background, business attire, no hats/scarves)
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training review
- Medication Safety module completion with certificate
- Confidentiality Agreement
- Tobacco-Free Campus Acknowledgement
- Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (travelers only)
- Hospital Policies and Acknowledgement Form
- Corp ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving credentials
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive with CXR)
- TB Questionnaire if past positive TB
- Rubeola (Measles) titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
- Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella per standard immunization requirements
- Drug testing (9-panel) within 6 months of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 10/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination no longer required for travel nurses as of 6/8/2023

- No holiday time off approved
- Must pass EKG testing before start
- Fast-paced environment requiring strong pain management skills
- Floating to other med-surg units required based on census needs
