Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: North Charleston, South Carolina
Facility Type: Ambulatory/Inpatient
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Unit: 23-hour Observation
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (05:30 AM to 6:00 PM), Monday through Thursday
- Weekend Requirement: No
- On-call Requirement: No
- Overtime: Not allowed
- Floating: Yes, within scope and to sister facilities (downtown, Main, West Campus)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Experience: Required (no first-timers accepted)
- Licenses:
- South Carolina RN license (SC State or Compact RN licensure) required before start
- Nursing License in good standing
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- PALS (required for pediatric units)
- BLS (AHA or ARC only)
- Additional Certifications:
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) as applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as applicable (not required for ER RNs)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as applicable
- Pending State License: Not accepted; SC license must be in hand prior to start
Scheduling & Work Rules
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Call Outs: Not allowed
- Radius Rule: 60 miles
- Locals: Accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Block Scheduling: Possible with prior approval (not guaranteed)

- Conducted onsite
- Orientation hours: 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Background Checks & Verifications
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Required searches: SSN Trace, SC Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification required; diploma/transcripts accepted as placeholders if needed
- State-specific search for South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers
- Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers
Certifications & Licenses
- Primary source verification of SC RN license (active, unencumbered)
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start
- IV Therapy certification required for select LPNs (if applicable)
Health & Immunization
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
Facility Specific Documents
- First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules must be completed prior to start
- Passport-style badge photo required before start
- Sterile Processing Techs require additional physical assessment and lab panels (CMP, CBC)
- Orientation modules (~2 hours) must be completed on a computer, not a phone
Additional Notes
- Radiation badge not required for this position
- Floating may include sister facilities within the system
- All required documents must be submitted and approved prior to start
- Facility enforces strict no-call-out policy and may cancel candidates who do not comply with fit testing or vaccination requirements
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses licensed in South Carolina who are comfortable with a 3x12-hour day shift schedule, floating within a hospital system, and meeting comprehensive compliance and health requirements.
