Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: North Charleston, South Carolina
Facility Type: Ambulatory/Inpatient


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Unit: 23-hour Observation
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, 5:00 PM to 5:30 AM, Monday through Thursday
  • Weekend Requirement: No
  • On-call Requirement: No
  • Overtime: Not allowed
  • Floating: Yes, within scope and to sister facilities (downtown, Main, West Campus)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Experience: Required (no first-timers accepted)
  • Licenses:
    • South Carolina State or Compact RN license (must have SC license prior to start)
    • Nursing License
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (AHA only)
    • PALS (required for all pediatric units except Pediatric OR; preferred for Pediatric OR)
    • BLS (AHA or ARC only)
  • Additional Certifications (as applicable):
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – not required for ER RNs
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – AWHONN or NCC acceptable
  • Pending State License: Not accepted; SC license must be in hand before start

Orientation

  • Unit orientation occurs onsite
  • Orientation schedule: 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week

Scheduling & Work Policies

  • Block scheduling may be accommodated with prior approval (not guaranteed)
  • Radius rule: 60 miles
  • Locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; no call-outs allowed

Facility & Work Environment

  • Scrub color: Royal or Navy Blue
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Parking: No cost

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, county checks outside SC, SC statewide, sex offender registry, national criminal, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification for RNs/LPNs/LVNs
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3)
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology and competency exams required; pediatric OR candidates may use regular OR competency exams if no pediatric experience
  • Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
  • Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses; must be submitted by Wednesday EOD prior to start
  • Facility Specific Documents:
    • First Day Instructions and OurDay Modules must be completed prior to start
    • COVID vaccination records (if available) and flu vaccines (during flu season) must be uploaded into OurDay
  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit Mask: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually; must test with specific approved masks
  • Vaccinations & Titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of positive with follow-up chest x-ray
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters may be accepted as per facility guidelines
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
    • COVID vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
  • Additional for Sterile Processing Techs (if applicable):
    • Physical assessment form completed by licensed provider within 1 year
    • CMP and CBC with differential required

Notes

  • Radiation badge is not required for this position
  • All required certifications must be valid beyond 30 days from start date; expiring certifications must be renewed or have a course scheduled prior to start
  • Facility uses Epic for charting and requires adherence to specific scrub colors
  • Travelers must comply with all facility-specific onboarding modules and documentation requirements before starting orientation

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses licensed in South Carolina who are comfortable working evening shifts in a pediatric observation unit with no weekend or on-call requirements.
