Job Opportunity: Med Tele RN - Illinois (Kankakee)

Position Details

• Specialty: Med Tele RN
• Location: Kankakee, Illinois
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Department: Med Tele RN
• Unit Beds: 31
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (5 AM - 5:30 PM)
• Scheduling: Team Lead manages schedule; attempts to accommodate preferences; if starting mid-schedule, orientation will fill in gaps
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• Call/Standby: None
• Floating: Required to float to medical floors/step down units to care for tele level patients
• Scrub Color: Caribbean colored scrubs
• Orientation: 1 shift (12 hours)

Patient Care & Unit Information

• Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
• Nurse Aide Ratio: 1:10-12
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor:

  • Day: Team Lead (does not take patients)
  • Nights/Weekends/Holidays: Charge Nurse (takes patients)
• Common Diagnoses: CHF, strokes, chest pain, diabetes mellitus, pneumonia, COPD, detox, underlying cardiac conditions, cath lab recoveries
• Experience Preferred: Radial band and femoral cath recoveries
• Drip Management: RNs do not titrate drips
• Common Drips: Lasix, heparin, bumex, protonix, octreotide (titratable or set rate)
• Tele/Monitor Techs: RNs read telemetry; centralized tele tech assists with monitoring
• Respiratory Equipment: CPAP/BiPAP (intermittent use only)

Requirements & Certifications

• Licensure: Must have Illinois RN license in hand
• Certifications: BLS required
• Experience: EPIC experience required; travel experience preferred
• Other: Driver’s license required for submission
• Local Placement: Candidates living within 20 miles of the facility are accepted

Additional Notes

• Facility requires clinical prescreen; if recommended, hiring manager has 24 hours to accept or decline candidate; no second phone interview
• Radius rule: Clinicians living within 50 miles of the facility may have adjusted compensation (not detailed here)
