Histology Technician Opportunity

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Specialty: Histology (Cost Center 115 WVUH Clinical Labs Anatomic Pathology)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Certifications & Education

• Certified Histotechnician (HT) via ASCP Verification OR
• Certified Histotechnologist (HTL) via ASCP Verification
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with corresponding certification accepted
• BLS not required (no patient contact)

Experience & Skills

• Previous histotechnician or histotechnologist experience preferred (busy academic medical center lab)
• Skills in microtomy, embedding, staining, routine instrument maintenance, special stains, H&E staining, IHC and IF staining, and other technical procedures
• Good communication, well-organized, able to work independently and as part of a team, fast learner

Job Duties & Scope

• Work specifically in the Histology lab (no phlebotomy or coverage of other lab areas required)
• Testing may include biopsies from muscles and kidneys, but prior experience in these areas is not required
• Use of Epic Beaker LIS and Epic EMR systems
• Equipment includes Ventana IHC instruments, H&E stainer, and cryostat

Work Schedule & Environment

• Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts starting between 5:00 AM and 8:00 AM
• Limited call on Saturdays (primarily for breast cases)
• No holiday work required
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling
• Lab-appropriate attire required; scrubs allowed; no open-toed shoes

Orientation & Training

• Department-specific orientation provided with training on all necessary tasks before independent work

Additional Notes

• Must have a driver’s license address outside 50 miles from the facility
• Only one submission allowed at a time across the entire WVU system
• Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
• Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years after 1 full year of travel at this facility
• Travel teams must be submitted together
• Only 2 candidates submitted per opening; submissions may be held if position is full
