Job Summary: Interventional Radiology (IR) Tech
Location: University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
Unit: Interventional Radiology
Facility Beds: 509
Unit Beds: 7
Trauma Level: 1
Teaching Facility: Yes
Prior Travel Experience Required: Yes
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: 10-hour day shifts (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM)
Rotation Schedule: Yes
Weekend Requirements: Work every 5th weekend
Call Requirements: One night per week and 5th weekend call
Holiday Requirements: Yes, distributed among staff
Experience & Certifications
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience
- Minimum 1 year clinical experience in Interventional Radiology (IR), ideally with neuro IR
- BLS required
- ACLS required
- Certification preferred but not required
- Recent EPIC experience required
Orientation & Training
- 1 week (biweekly orientation sessions available)
Patient Population
- Diagnoses include liver failure, arteriovenous malformation (AVM), multiple myeloma
- Age range: 18-100 years
Unit Environment & Support
- Ancillary assistance available (CNA/PCT/Unit Secretary)
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7
- Anesthesia available 24/7
- Respiratory therapists manage ventilators
Equipment & Procedures
- Special equipment: ACT, EKOS catheter/setup, EVD/ICP monitoring, lumbar drains
- Unit-specific procedures:
- Start IVs
- Monitor sedated patients
- Administer sedation medications
- Monitor EKG
- Administer blood
- Manage drips including Integrelin, TPA, Propofol, heparin, Fentanyl, Versed
Additional Information
- No floating required
- No charge nurse responsibilities
- Dress code: Hospital-issued scrubs, shoes/jewelry/hair/beard/nail polish per policy
- Documentation system: Epic
- Call frequency and weekend work may vary depending on staffing levels
- Skills checklist and references must be current (dated within 12 months)
- COVID vaccination not required
This position is ideal for IR techs with solid experience, especially those familiar with neuro IR, who are comfortable with call and weekend rotations in a Level 1 trauma teaching hospital setting.
