Job Description

  • Position requires Certified Surgical Tech (CVOR) with scrub experience.
  • Shift: Primarily evening to early morning (18:30 to 07:00) with call required. Schedule may vary based on need.
  • Must be flexible with shift assignments.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 5 years total CST experience.
  • At least 2 years experience in cardiac & vascular surgery.
  • Minimum 1 year CVOR experience.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a Level I Trauma facility.
  • Experience with cardiovascular/thoracic instrument reprocessing.

Required Skills:

  • General OR procedures
  • Thoracic surgery
  • Vascular surgery
  • CVOR procedures including CABG, EVAR, TEVAR, valve replacement, etc.
  • Aseptic technique
  • Crash cart management, scrub & circulate roles
  • Equipment documentation

Charting System:

  • EPIC

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable (no letter of completion).
  • Tech Certification Verification (National) - Required within 30 days of start.
  • State License Verification - Required within 30 days of start.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement - Required annually.

Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, EFM) - check unit-specific requirements.


Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and MVR if driving is required.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific Ohio codes. New fingerprinting required if break in service >90 days or results older than 1 year.
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring required.
  • Education accreditation verification required immediately after contract signing.
  • Transcript/Diploma verification required (including for foreign education).
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required.
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required.
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines.
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; signed declination acceptable.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption requires documentation.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); mask required if declining.
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination collected if available.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership.
  • Employment application required for all candidates; nursing candidates must include education details.
  • Skills checklist required.
  • Unit-specific competency exams required, including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exams for RNs.
  • EKG competency exam must be passed within 1 year of start and updated annually; remediation process in place for failures.
