Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel contract in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) at a hospital in Round Rock, TX. This is a backfill position requiring rotating call and weekend availability. Shifts are primarily 10-hour day shifts with some variation (8, 10, or 12-hour shifts possible).


Unit Information

  • Unit: Operating Room (OR) - Department 701
  • Number of Beds: 11 operating rooms
  • Staffing:
    • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 11 RNs, 11 Techs, 2 PCTs
    • Night Shift: Mon-Thurs 2 RNs, 2 Techs; Fri-Sun 1 RN, 1 Tech
    • Weekend: 1 charge nurse, 2 RNs, 2 CSTs, 1 PCY
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1
  • Equipment: Microscopes, Da Vinci Xi Robot, Mako Robot, Laparoscopic Stryker tower, Stealth, Endovascular Hybrid room equipment
  • EMR System: Meditech
  • Permanent Positions Available: Yes

Required Skills and Experience

  • Specialty: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years CVOR experience required
  • Experience Must Include:
    • All adult open heart cases
    • Open and endovascular cases, including open and endovascular AAA surgery
    • Willingness to work with Cath lab cases such as TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement)
  • General OR Experience: At least 1 year of basic general OR knowledge
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS
  • Licenses: Registered Nurse License
  • Prior Travel Experience: Travel experience required

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

  • Trauma experience (RN and Tech)
  • Vascular surgery experience (RN and Tech), including fistula creation and endarterectomy surgery

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Spine surgeries: X-lif, A-lif, Decompression, ACDF
  • Neurosurgery: Craniotomy
  • Robotic surgeries: Thoracic, general, gynecology, urology
  • Orthopedic trauma and total joint replacements (Mako Robot)
  • General open and laparoscopic surgeries
  • Cardiovascular surgeries: CABG, valve surgeries, aortic surgeries including trauma cases
  • Endovascular procedures: TAVR, TCAR, TEVAR, EVAR, open vascular cases

Work Environment and Culture

  • Flexible and adaptable to different types of cases and rooms
  • Collaborative team environment with a focus on supporting new graduate techs and RNs
  • Willingness to occasionally pick up extra hours is a plus but not mandatory
  • Scrub color: Light blue (scrubs provided)

Call and Weekend Requirements

  • Rotating call required, including weekends based on unit needs

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs who have prior travel experience and are comfortable working in a fast-paced, technologically advanced OR environment with a variety of cardiovascular and general surgery cases.
