Travel RN - Cardiothoracic Surgery / Cardiac Telemetry
Location: Portland, Maine
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM
Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 hours guaranteed
Weekend Hours: Every to every other weekend (36 hours)
Call Requirements: None
Specialty & Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac telemetry
- Required Years of Experience: 2 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- Must Have Skills:
- Strong cardiac telemetry experience
- Preferred Skills:
- Experience with cardiac surgery (CABG, valve replacement, post aortic dissection repair)
- Thoracic surgery experience (VATS, wedge resection, lobectomy)
- Comfort with chest tubes and temporary epicardial pacemakers
- Experience with post-TAVR patients
- Familiarity with cardiology treatments including Heart Failure, Pulmonary Hypertension, and medications such as Amiodarone, insulin, dobutamine, nitro, milrinone, diltiazem
- Surgical, trauma, and telemetry experience
Unit Information
- Number of Beds: 36
- Patient Ratios:
- Day shift: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Night shift: 1 nurse to 5 patients
- Type of Patients: Cardiac telemetry, post cardiac and thoracic surgeries
- EMR System: Epic
- Float Requirements: First to float; may float to other med/surg units as needed
Education & Certifications
- Required Certifications: BLS
- Education Modules: Hospital onboarding modules assigned on Day 1

- No open-toe shoes

Additional Notes
- The unit is currently experiencing staffing shortages and relies on contract labor to maintain capacity during orientation and training of new hires.
- The position supports a high-acuity cardiac telemetry unit with a focus on post-surgical cardiac and thoracic patients.
- No call responsibilities, but weekend work is required.
