• Unit Beds: 8 OR beds at main campus, plus 4 ORs at Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)

Experience & Certification Requirements

• Minimum Clinical Experience: 2 years
• Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years in OR or surgical services
• Required Certifications: New York State nursing license, BLS
• Preferred Certifications: CNOR preferred, certification through NBSTSA recommended
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required but preferred
• Work History: Must be from similar size facility with trauma level II or higher

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Circulating nurse required; scrub experience preferred
• Patient care modality: OR surgical cases (all surgeries except cardiac, transplants, neuro, and gastric bypass)
• Patient age range: 6 months to 100+ years
• Unit-specific procedures: Start IVs, patient transports if central transport is backed up
• Floating required to ASC; rotation depends on cases and nurse experience
• Call requirements: 1 night per week; on call once every 3rd to 4th weekend; 1 holiday on call per year if holiday not assigned
• Charge nurse: Not required

Staffing & Support

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1
• Ancillary staff per shift: OR aides, scrub techs, surgical assistants, RNs (approx. 30 staff)
• CNA/PCT and unit clerk/secretary: Not present on unit
• Advanced practice providers: Not present on unit
• Respiratory and anesthesia support available 24/7
• Ventilator management by respiratory therapists

Orientation & Scheduling

• Orientation length: 2 days
• Scheduling system: Smartsquare
• Shift hours: 07:00 - 19:30 (12-hour shifts)
• Rotation schedule: Rotating days off with other 12-hour shift staff
• Self-scheduling: No
• Weekend requirements: On call every 3rd to 4th weekend
• Holiday requirements: On call for 1 holiday per year if not assigned

Work Environment & Dress Code

• Scrubs provided
• Shoes: Closed toe, non-skid per OR dress code
• Jewelry: None while scrubbed in; earrings must be covered by hair covering
• Hair/beard: Surgical caps covered by disposable caps; beards must be covered
• Nail polish: No chipped polish or fake nails allowed

Systems & Equipment

• Documentation system: EPIC
• Medication system: EPIC
• Special equipment: IV pumps, invasive monitoring, respiratory support, anesthesia support available
• Certified OR Techs: Float and call required; weekend shifts every other weekend as needed; max call 1x post-shift/week and 1 weekend day per 4-week schedule

Additional Notes

• Strong ENT experience needed due to rise in cases
• Solid knowledge base required in ortho, robotics, general surgery, ENT, plastics, neuro
• No block schedules; work Monday through Sunday as scheduled
• Bi-weekly orientations on Mondays
• Reliable personal transportation strongly recommended (public transportation not accessible)
• Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires November through April
