Requirements
- Pennsylvania nursing license in hand
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- Must have cardio thoracic experience
Work Schedule
- Heart team shift: Typically 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday
- If starting a 7:00 AM heart case: clock in at 5:45 AM, clock out at 2:15 PM
- If starting an 8:15 AM heart case: clock in at 6:40 AM, clock out at 3:10 PM
- Call requirements:
- Weekday call 1-2 times per week; stay until cases finish, then on-call from home if living within 30-40 minutes
- Weekend call 1-2 weekends per 6-week schedule (Friday 3 PM to Monday 7 AM), mostly on-call from home; rare call-ins
- The heart team currently has 3 RNs
- Average of at least 2 cases per day
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross (front and back of card required)
- BLS (Basic Life Support), preferably from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred (front and back of card required)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% or meet/exceed Angoff score)
- Competency Exam (minimum 80% or meet/exceed Angoff score)
Background & Health Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, including SS trace, county searches (last 7 years), nationwide sex offender, PA statewide patch search
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
- HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
- Pennsylvania Department of Human Services fingerprinting required (detailed process for completion and follow-up)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON Gold, or Tspot) within 1 year; if past positive, negative chest x-ray within 1 year plus annual TB questionnaire
- Drug testing: Negative 15-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1); declinations accepted
Immunizations
- Rubeola (Measles): Two vaccines or positive titer within 10 years; booster if negative/equivocal
- Mumps: Two vaccines or positive titer within 10 years; booster if negative/equivocal
- Rubella: Two vaccines or positive titer within 10 years; booster if negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Vaccine series, positive titer within 10 years, or signed declination
- Varicella: Two vaccines or positive titer within 10 years; booster if negative/equivocal
Facility-Specific Requirements (to be completed prior to start)

- Employment handbook review
- Various competency assessments and training modules including:
- Assessment of Patient Policy (100% quiz pass required)
- Interdisciplinary Plans of Care (100% quiz pass required)

- Mobility Training (100% quiz pass required)
- Catheter Training (100% quiz pass required)
- Cardiac Procedure Education Binder review (for Telemetry units)
- Competency Assessment form (for Telemetry units, to bring to orientation)
References
- 2 professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care positions (within 3 years of start)
- 1 professional reference required for per diem non-acute care positions
