Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU/Stepdown
Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in PCU with Stepdown experience
- Certifications Required:
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) - must have at time of application
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - must have at time of application
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) - must be obtained prior to start
- First-time travelers accepted: Yes
- Pending License accepted: Yes
- Guaranteed Hours:
- 36 hours for 3x12-hour shifts
- 40 hours for 8 or 10-hour shifts
- Float Requirements: Will float within scope to all 3 hospitals within 20 miles
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: Yes, at same rate
- Epic Experience: Must be proficient at level 3 or 4
- Additional Skills: Familiarity with cardiac drips required
- Orientation: Next available orientation date is approximately 3-4 weeks out

Compliance & Requirements
Licensure & Background
- Facility does not accept any license hits
- Negative 10-panel drug screen plus nicotine (cotinine) test required within 12 months of start
- Smoke-free facility: All travelers must be nicotine-free, no exceptions
- 7-year criminal background check required, including all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting accepted nationwide)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
Health & Immunizations
- Physical exam within 6 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (annual updates required)
- Required immunizations or titers:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required annually (medical/religious exemptions allowed with approved documentation)
- COVID-19 vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption required
Testing & Orientation
- Pass/Fail testing for EKG and Pharmacology during orientation (2 attempts max each, no remediation)
- Study materials provided prior to orientation
- Online training modules must be completed by due date (access provided after contract signing)
- Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone
- Time-sensitive modules must be prioritized immediately upon assignment confirmation
References & Documentation
- Two professional references required within 2 years of start date
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Performance evaluation required if candidate has worked with the system for over 1 year
Important Notes
- Permanent and per diem candidates cannot return to this hospital system for 1 year from their previous end date
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at time of application; no exceptions
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
- Facility issues radiation badges if applicable
- Candidates must complete all required compliance documents including I9, E-Verify, and privacy policy acknowledgments
