Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Morganton, North Carolina

Job Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Night shift, ASAP start
  • Unit: Family Center - Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP)
  • Unit Details:
    • 16 LDRP rooms
    • C-section Suite and PACU on L&D unit
    • 4 Bed Special Care Nursery
  • Experience Required: Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby experience mandatory
  • Unit Characteristics:
    • Closed specialty unit (no floating to other units)
    • Growing support staff including preadmit nurse, discharge planner/case worker, maternity navigator, unit educator, and lactation consultant
    • Focus on best practices and continuous improvement in maternal and infant care

Key Initiatives & Programs

  • Eat, Sleep, Console program for infants with withdrawal symptoms (implemented 2021)
  • Validated Screening Tool for prenatal patients integrated into EPIC (developed 2022)
  • Upcoming projects include Safe Sleep Calculator, expanded mental health options, Narcan education, Care of the Late Preterm Infant, and Sepsis in Obstetrical Care

Licensure & Certifications Required

  • North Carolina RN license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only
  • Additional preferred certifications:
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) Intermediate or Advanced (AWHONN)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred for some roles
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred for ED

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year criminal history check (all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated with contract renewals
  • Official transcripts or copies (transcripts required for some specialties)
  • State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification
  • Annual physical exam attestation
  • Fit testing for N95 masks within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations and titers required or declinations accepted with follow-up:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B series or declination
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Drug testing (10 panel) within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start and updated annually

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 clinical references dated within 1 year of start
  • Completed employment application/resume
  • Skills checklist required
  • Performance and internal evaluations if previously employed with the agency for over 1 or 2 years respectively
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge, confidentiality statement, new hire information, and various acknowledgments

This position is ideal for RNs with strong Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby experience seeking a specialized, supportive, and continuously improving work environment on a closed specialty unit.
