Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey

Job Requirements & Description

  • Minimum 3+ years of nursing experience preferred; first-time travelers will be considered.
  • Certifications required: BLS; CNOR preferred.
  • Scrub experience required for open Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) cases and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR).
  • RNs may float to Main OR if no CVOR cases are available.
  • No block schedule; on-call required for 32 total hours per month.
  • Patient mix includes open heart adult surgery such as CABG, valve surgeries (aortic, mitral, pulmonic).
  • Required skills: knowledge of devices such as Impella, HeartMate, ECMO, laser lead extractions, and TAVR (also performed in Main OR).
  • Hospital provides scrubs.
  • Locals accepted.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Identification: Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License required within 48 hours of signing).
  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including aliases and all locations worked/lived in past 7 years.
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for every contract renewal.
    • New Jersey Department of Treasury Exclusions List check required within 30 days of start and for extensions.
    • MVR/DMV hits do not require facility review for this location.
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Health Documents:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility requirements.
    • Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
    • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
    • Fit test and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start.
    • Immunizations: Proof of immunity or vaccination for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
    • Latex allergy screening questionnaire if job tasks require glove use.
  • References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
  • Employment History: Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history; work history verification required for New Jersey candidates.

Certifications Required (as applicable)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all RNs.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for RN Manager, ED, Adult Critical Care Units, MS/Tele, Outpatient Surgery, PCU, L&D; preferred for Behavioral Health.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for L&D, Mother-Baby, NICU, Nursery, Antepartum, Special Care Nursery.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for ED, Outpatient Surgery, PACU, PICU, Pediatric units.
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification): Required for adult and pediatric chemo-certified nurses as applicable.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for Adult Critical Care, ED, Telemetry, MS/Tele, Cath Lab, and Stroke Center units.
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB): Required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs; includes online and in-person training.
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Pharmacology and EKG competency exams required for clinical staff in specified units.
  • Competency Exams: Medication, Dysrhythmia/EKG, and general competency exams required within 12 months of start.

Additional Notes

  • Floating policy applies; RNs may be required to float between units.
  • Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation required prior to start.
  • CEUs (Continuing Education Units) required for certain specialties and certifications, with specific expiration and renewal timelines.
  • Candidates with name changes must provide proof and include all names in background checks.
  • Candidates must complete all required documentation and clearances prior to start date.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity cardiovascular surgical environment with a diverse patient population and advanced technology. Candidates should be prepared for a flexible schedule including on-call hours and floating assignments.
