Job Overview

• Primarily outpatient physical therapy with occasional float to acute care.
• Delegates responsibilities to Physical Therapist Assistants and Aides.
• Focus on patient assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation following physical therapy standards and physician orders.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate patient function using formal and informal testing (skeletal, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular).
• Develop and submit goal-specific treatment plans coordinated with physicians.
• Schedule treatments with frequency and duration tailored to patient needs.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers on conditions, prognosis, and treatment rationale.
• Supervise Physical Therapist Assistants, Aides, Home Health Aides, and students.
• Recommend and assist in securing adaptive/supportive equipment.
• Document patient responses and changes in condition per regulatory standards.
• Complete daily documentation for billing and compliance.
• Provide treatment interventions to restore optimal functioning.
• Promote physical therapy services within the community.
• Function as case manager for assigned cases.
• Participate in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to organizational policies.
• Demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows and participate in ongoing learning.
• Follow OSHA and Exposure Control Plan requirements.
• Use personal protective equipment correctly.
• Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Exposure to stressful situations including trauma, grief, and death.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment (including latex or substitutes).
• Mobility to move freely about the facility, with or without assistive devices.
• Vision and hearing adequate for job functions.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and postural changes (stooping, kneeling, crouching).
• Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must follow testing protocols.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and maintain regular attendance.
• Dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, and fingering, often repetitively.

Required Education and Certifications

• Bachelor's Degree
• Physical Therapist (PT) licensure
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 1 month of hire or transfer

Experience and Training

• Successful completion of facility-specific orientation and new hire competency.
• Fingerprinting required (paid by employer).
